Warm-up artists in Europe this summer?
Posted by: Tekumseh ()

Is it true that Mötley Crüe is warming up all through Europe?
Or is it just a few selected shows?

I hope they'll be in Gothenburg, june 10th.

Metallica are rumoured to open a few shows.

They once were one of my favourite bands. They play rock'n'roll, and what more should we ask for, standing there waiting for our heroes to show up... smiling smiley

In Stockholm '03 a local band called The Hayes warmed up. It wasn't my kind of music, but they rocked the place.

Metallica has already opened a few shows, but I hope there will be someone less famous than them.

Personally, I hope young Joss Stone can make an appearance as support for them somewhere or other.

I'd like Motley Crue more than Metallica. But it's all fine. I never really bother watching the opening act..

Metallica and Motley Crue both totally rock! I was fortunate enough to see each of them open for the Stones. Much preferred to some of the other opening acts. I'm curious as to who is opening for Glasgow, Wembley, Brussels, and Paris.

I would not appreciate the concept of having Joss Stone as warm-up act for the Stones.
I mean Ms Stone is talented and beautiful alright, but she's definitely not the correct choice at a ROCK'N'ROLL event.
My wishes are Metallica and believe it or not - Mötley Crüe.

I am hoping Motley Crue are not opening at the concerts I go to.

Maybe they get ZZ Top again Pleeeess

Göteborg & Horsens: Gasolin'! Gasolin'! Gasolin'!
(Daydreams are allowed, arent they?)

BB, are Gasolin' still together?

Nope; havent played (with one exception)
since 1978. The leaders, Kim Larsens, attitude
havent been what one would call open-minded to a reunion.
The Stonesvikings runs a campaign for this;
but I find it, deep in my heart, most unrealistic.
But; one should never abandon Hope.

They sounded great on those CD's you sent me. I had never heard of them. It's a long way from Sweden to South Georgia!

well, but why the hell they choose bands like motley crue and metallica to open for them!? i mean, they don't need that, i'd like to see new rock bands, not old tired metal bands! What about bands like the Hives, the Arctic Monkeys or the White Stripes! that would make these kids happy and would be more more exciting!

Metallica would have been great warm up... Let's hope Lars (Ulrich) wants to head home to Denmark, and warm up for the Stones in Horsens smiling smiley And, please, no "Guns n' Roeses", or whatever's left of it... smiling smiley

Not Joss Stone please!
She's a corporate identikit, Record Label wet-dream.
There are thousands of girls/women who can sing as good (if not better) than her. With her manufactured hippy-chick bo-ho look and transatlantic twang (she's from Devon, UK- not Detroit or LA), she irritates the hell out of me, and represents everything that is wrong with the record industry today.

For the European leg of the tour, i'd like to see bands of the calibre, of THe Foo Fighters, The Arcade Fire, The Subways playing support slots.
Not washed-up '80's metal freak-shows, or corporate soul schtick.

If the Stones management and Mick know they're stuff (and keep they're ear to the ground) they'd book The Arctic Monkeys, a.s.a.p for the Sheffield gig.

I 100% agree with you. I finally got round to listening to the Artic Monkeys album last night. It's fantastic!

Back to the subject of supporting bands though, yeah, the Artic Monkeys would be a great choice and it really would show the boys are tuned in to what’s currently happening. If so, they should also consider The Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party (though, I'm not a huge fans of theirs) and Razorlight. They're new number ROCKED at the NME awards! Also, I’m going to see the wonderful Graham Coxon next month in Hammersmith. With a new album to promote, surely he'd be an ideal opener.

I think we got a great selection in the UK and Europe back in 2003. We got Tim Burgess, The Darkness, Primal Scream, The Thrills, The Hives and many other great acts. Surely this summer they should strive to better it!

i don't want some NME flavour of the month shit supporting when i go thats for certain

i want some ROCK N ROLL!

if they start wheeling out the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand its going to look very desperate. not to mention ultra safe

lets have some TURBONEGRO!

that'd annoy the old farts something terrible as they sit down for a glass of pimms and a pork pie

I don't think we will. Who knows? Maybe it won't be like last time, but I really do think we'' get some ace opening acts. Lets not forget, The Strokes, The White Stripes and a couple of others aside, the US leg of the Licks tour was littered with rubbish opening acts. Shaggy, No Doubt and so on. Yet, when the came to Europe it was nearly all great. I think it'll pan out the same this time round too. Think about it, Queens Of The Stone Age aside, they've had Joss Stone, Maroon 5 and The Black Eyed Peas sop far, I think that’s a hint that they're saving the great openers for us again!

Metallica filled stadiums in Europe three years ago. Do you think they are just on the cards for the Rolling Stones not-yet-sold-out shows?
And the already sold-out-ones maybe will get a less popular opening act?

quality warm up acts, for the UK shows, are of little concern to me, to be honest. We've got to endure all-seater stadiums- the one advantage of this, is, if you don't like the warm up artist, you don't have to, and you can get back to your position, with relatively little problem in time for the main event.

actually thats a good point. we can stay in the pub an hour longer and then calmly walk to our pitch seats about 10 minutes before the stones are due on

i'm still hoping Barca throws in a decent support though. i can't wait for that fecker

The Gasolin documentary is premiering in Denmark on Thursday (tomorrow). That's the galla premiere. I will see it on Friday (I hope).
