Shanghai 2006, the real club show of this tour ?
Posted by: MarcJ ()

I have bought my tickets for Shanghai because finally this is going to be the best show of the tour.

8'000 people, great section available, some new songs and a city unlike any another one...

I have been travelling several times to China, but i think this concert is worth a crazy week-end.

What do you think ?

It is a fair bet. Would fly for 2 shows, not for a single one. Where do you live, Marc ?

I am living in Switzerland, so not the place next door. I have been in several places in China before, Shanghai is an amazing city. This concert will certainly be interesting for many reasons, first time in china ever...small venue, many reasons to be there.

Expect a standard set list not like a club show.
But if Brown Sugar (BS for the initiates) was not played, it would be an event.

First time in China was Hong Kong November 2003. Okay, things are different in Hong Kong, but political it's China since 1996 or so.

8,000 is now a "club" ???? WTF

Its too big for a theatre, never mind a club

Should be an interesting place to go, but in a place where most people dont even know the basic hits and theyve never played before, its the show more than any other on this tour where you can expect a standard greatest hits show.

It will be interesting that's for sure. I'd love to attend, but can't. I can only hope that out of all the shows they do on this tour, the resultant DVD (and there's bound to be one surely?) of this tour won't be a mix n' match job of songs from different concerts, but might include this show in its entirety. It's just that playing for the first time in China, and to an audience that probably is the most unfamiliar audience of anywhere in the world when it comes to the Stones' body of material, serves to make this show definitely a bit special. I really do hope they record the entire thing, and more to the point - perhaps one day release it on DVD.

doubt it - it'll probably be the quietest and least excitable audience on the whole tour

thereby defeating a large visual appeal of any DVD

yeah - they'll show crowd shots from Buenos Aires instead!!!!

Even though its a stadium, only eagle eyed fans will spot the difference!

Gazza , I doubt it will be much more boring then all the snobs at RCMH in New York rattling their jewlery to paraphrase John Lennon. In fact, I predict that most of the A block, at about $375 per ticket, well beyond the reach of the average Chinese, will be stuffed with tourists and EXPATS starved for Western Style Enteretainment.

The seat map above is actually quite a bit different than what EmmaTcikets had on their site the firts few hours of the sale, b4 the web page was shut down. First, on the map above, there does appear to be a B-stage...or a large mixing desk; there in mid arena is a single block of color that does not have a matching price. The A block seats, the more expensive, now have quite a bit fewer section according to this map.

I think the agency itself is in a bit of confusion, and may have been unprepared for the response they got. I know a few people with A block seats promised on the phone by the agency and yet no money has exchanged hands, myself included. I know of someone that has actually already paid in mainland China, has a reciept, but still has no better promise and no tickets.

I agree with ya, I think I said the same when some people suggested they release a DVD of THAT show

Don't agree, It's a one-off, their first in the "peoples' republic". You guys are looking at it through "western eyes". Don't. Big mistake. Don't know how "creatively" (if you get my drift) their editing and subsequent marketing is gonna be, but mark my words, they will market it cleverly and lucratively. "THEY" .......... are the "Rolling Stones".

its an "administrative region"

Ever travelled ? Don't be silly, you know perfectly well what I mean. If you really think that HK in 2003 and mailand "peoples" republic" in year 2003 are the same thing; then .............................. well I can't express it in words that wouldn't offend !

well I live in that area of teh world, the Pacific Asain Rim, and I can tell you that in 2000 HK and Shanghai were worlds apart. But with each pasing year they are heading toward each other in the middle. This not rural China, Shanghai is rapidly becoming a world class city at a dizzing rate. I have not seen anwywhere else changing so fast. Beijing remains much more rigid. I am not saying Shanghai, Manahtten, and Hong Kong are all the same, but Shanghai, along both sides of the Yellow River now, is a lot more cosmopolitan and worldy then most peole would believe.

This is a breath taking city, even Beijing or Shenzen are unbelievable cities. China is still an unknown place for the western people, and should be considered for a next trip.

For Shanghai tickets, emails and phones leaded me to having tickets, finally not very difficult.

This venue might be a normal setlist, but due to this special place, it will be like taking part to an historical moment in the life or the Rolling Stones.

Then considering the small venue comparing to stadiums of this tour it will be certainly a good chance to see them in very good conditions.

Well a very nice trip for those who like adventure and discovery.

I'm just wondering. Where the hell get some people that amount of money from, from Switzerland to China, just because of a concert. Holy shit. Bank rubbing or what?????????

Well I wish it was that easy gaigai, but we have too few banks here on my island to rob! I am an MD and I work hard and I play hard. To finance my tour this time I am on call 24/7 for days on end: I usually take every other Saturday and Sunday off, but otherwise it is me any time day or night.

I will do that for about two months...look at my accounts...and see what I can afford for the next leg of the tour. Hence Shanghai in April...mid June is Central Europe...end of August the UK.

It is way less expensive to buy a fly ticket to shanghai, some are very cheap at this season, then to book an hotel (chinese ones can be also cheap) and to buy the Stones tickets, than to go with Fan Asylum kind of organisations.

Good on ya Kahoosier, we all have to do what we have to do in order to finance our RS habits ! As for me, I'm currently getting sandblasted out in an exploration survey field camp in the Algerian Sahara. My first reward (the first of many this summer in Europe) will be Barcelona on 27th May. God I can't wait !!

Enjoy Shanghai. I think it will be special, I think it's a real milestone in the Stones' career/history. What a show to attend ? If only I could ? But wait a minute, just let me look at my calendar ............................... !!! Anyway, we're relying on you to post a very comprehensive review on IORR, don't let us down - OK ?

I wish I had his "understanding" of all such matters, let alone his skill. O dear, so much to learn and so little time in which to learn it ! Never mind, whatever I don't manage in this lifetime, I'll make a note to remind myself to get on and do it in the next !

Now be sure not to forget you're pen n' paper before you go into the Shanghai show. If we don't get at least a full page worth of review in say ....... less than 18 hours after it ends, you stand to be severely reprimanded.
