the beatles were incredible. if you just picked songs out from the solo discs to make up beatle discs , you would realize that they would have had many other classic selections to offer us...

Beatles are too overated for me too!
That does not mean they have'nt made some good stuff -they have, its just I do not see the fuss that is made of everything they do as being justified. Same with Lennon as a solo artist- Imagine- great song, but I dont think any of his other stuff in anywhere near that level. I think Sympathy for the Devil is a superbly written song and better than anything offered to us from the beatles.

Could be a case of 'you had to be there' but as I wasnt old enough to know the 60's I cant judge.

Other overated stuff for me;
Motley Crue- utter shite
Phil Collins- how can it possibly be that this man is so popular?
Coldplay, Radiohead - rapidly disapearing up thier own arses!

I think U2 is. They have some decent songs but ENOUGH with Bono trying to save the world already! I wonder if he hears about it from his bandmates? Bon Jovi (or Anchovie, like I call 'em) is a bit overrated as well. All those sappy power ballads! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk!!!! lol

I like most bands mentioned here. In fact I'm a big fan of some of them. Others I admit not liking very much, but not overrated. Like Bon Jovi, Kiss and others are not overrated. The sell a lot of records, but are not overrated. Nobody really thinks that Bon Jovi is a brilliant band. Except for the fans.

I agree on The Ramones, Nirvana & Radiohead. And I add The Sex Pistols, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop and Madonna.

It's impossible to "rate" the Beatles highly enough... whether you personally like their music or not is another question.

I'm not saying Beatles are worthless. But the rating is slightly out of context.
I think Elvis deserves all his rating. So does Big Bill Broonzy and so on. Without him/them where would we be now. Let's go back and further back. To the begining. There should lay the highest ratings. The Mississipii Delta blues.

How in the world can you list the Dead alongside Kiss OR Queen, let alone sandwich them between those 2 groups...

I'm not a Queen fan, some of Kiss' stuff is fun and I think they'd be a good live concert though I'm not going to drive very far to see them...

On the other hand, the Grateful Dead is in a "class by themselves", a remarkable band as great in their own way as the Stones, the Dead, Dylan, Clapton, Springsteen, or any other "legendary" band you care to name.

i already stated my case with the Ramones....could you explain how they are overrated?.......as for Iggy & the Stooges.....again, no way are they overrated......the 3 great Stooges lps laid some of the groundwork for the punk genre..........if anything they're way overlooked

But I don't care how influential they are, I think they're musically overrated. Rating something is a form of opinion. Not a fact. Just like I think Mozart is overrated since there are allot better composers from that era...

I now see names appear, that in my opinion are one of the best groups in the world.

I think with overrated they mean bands that didn't had any any single hit and now are praised as the ultimate Band in the world.
i.e. The Velvet Underground, I used to listen to the Velvet because that was cool back then, but if I listen to it now I think ? (they are not that big as people used to say or think)

The Eagles...their greatest hits album sold like 27 million, and while I do enjoy some songs like "Hotel California" (at times), "One of these nights", and "Already Gone," they are usually incredibly boring and mediocre.
