I don't get that last part. Did HE tell YOU personally that HE was going to win gold?

Get a clue; perhaps you should try re-reading my post.

He let me and the rest of his countrymen down by purporting to represent us (not to mention enjoying our support) and then putting forth a half-assed effort. The fact that he didn't win a gold medal is not the issue. It's that he was out all week partying, barely finished a single race, ran his mouth before the Olympics (criticizing other famous athletes), and then avoided the media when the going got tough.

Mr Miller was out there trying to do his very best for the United States. He didn't make it this time around. Maybe he'll succeed at a later occasion. We're talking sports here, not really a big deal. It's hilarious some people feel ashamed being American 'cause Miller didn't score at the Olympics. I always feel proud of being a US citizen, no matter how bad a bunch of professional athletes representing the States are performing. What were you guys doing while Mr Miller hit the slopes. Let me guess - You sat in your couches drinking beer and ate several bags of Humpty Dumpty Bar-B-Q Potato Chips.MEZ

and Ay ay baby it hurts

From the MSN website:

Bode Miller
He said all along that Olympic medals weren’t what they’re cracked up to be. One thing you can’t accuse Miller of is not backing up his words with actions, whether they were about the unimportance of medals or the benefits of a beer or 12 the night before a big race.

Still, we in the media believed his sponsors and apologists who said that Miller, who won skiing’s World Cup last year, was a threat to medal in each of the five Alpine disciplines. Surely, we thought, when the sport’s reigning nonconformist and bad boy took his place in the start house, his competitive instincts would take over. That’s how it’s been for all the great champions, from Jean Claude Killy to Franz Klammer to Rosi Mittermeier to Janica Kostelic to Hermann Maier.

But not Bode. He lost the downhill in the very last section of the course, straddled a gate in the slalom part of the combined and kept on coming up small until the very end, when he made it through at least four gates of the slalom before straddling another one and skiing off into a very murky sunset.

It’s hard to think of a bigger American disappointment in the history of the Summer and Winter Games than Miller. He wasn’t in shape when he arrived, never gave himself a chance and never showed he understood what was at stake.

His defenders — and he still has plenty of them — say he was true to himself; he did it his way. There’s no arguing that. And the only hope is that his way isn’t contagious.

Treesnake, I completely agree with you. If I had any reason to believe he even came close to giving his best effort, I would support him. About all he really accomplished is adding to the rest of the worlds perception of Americans as nothing but fat, dumb & happy as well as obnoxious. To me, he's a disgrace to his country. Also, I GUARANTEE you that 10-20 years from now, he'll sit down & give a sob story interview about how he wishes he could go back in time and take the things more seriously and not have wasted the prime of his career.

Bode Miller was unprepared and could care less about his crap-ass performance. He's a spoiled, lazy good for nothing loser.

Heh... interesting post... Beely, what I ment by "waste of sponsorship $$" was "waste of $$" that another athlete would have enjoyed and would have worked harder for. No doubt Bode trains hard, but to slack off at the event and brag about it when interviewed says, like JJF says, "spoiled, lazy, loser."

I've always liked Bode, but can you imagine how bummed any alternate would be to be denied a spot in the olympics so Bode could go and party, bomb (not just lose, but BOMB!) ALL his events, and act like he doesn't care?

M+K, even when they give us a lackluster setlist, bust their butts onstage for two hours and keep cranking out albums into their old age. Bode ain't even old yet, and he's already pooping out.

A new verb has been added to the English language.

Keith partied in Olympic fashion and showed up for the show feeling like crap, played like shit, quit after the fourth song, humiliated himself, his sponsors and his fans.

He bodied the gig!

No, he DIDN'T try to do his best. That's the problem. A lack of results is forgivable in the Olympics, but a lack of effort isn't.
