Bird flu over Europe - World Cup and Stones gigs in danger?

Politicians in Germany think about cancelling the World Cup if the bird flu gets worse and/or infects people. They say its unthinkable in that case that people gather in stadiums.

Well, german Stones gigs also take place in stadiums... I really hope the bird flu is done in a few weeks.

The whole bird flu is LARGELY exaggerated by the press, media and politicians (and there are certain financial reasons for doing so). Think of it like this: if bird flu was as dangerous and possible to expand like the say it is, wouldn't countries in Asia (where it started from) be suffering at a huge percent? But they don't.

Exactly! How many people have died so far? Like 80? out of how many billion people in the world.

There's always a reason to be concerned, but the fear over this is very overrated.

it's panic stations, if the virus mutates,
and becomes infectious from human to human.

Driving a car is 1000 times more dangerous. It is not the status of the bird's flu at present that is dangerous. It is when it eventually mutate and go from person to person. Then the tour will be cancelled, and millions of people will die. But don't worry until that is happening. We don't know if and when. And Stones shows being cancelled would be your least worry then, any travel would put you in danger. But until then, just respect the rules set up by the governments, don't eat sick birds (like they have done some places and died) and so on.

It's all about the mutating of the virus, and viruses do mutate. The flu shots that some people get every year, their composition changes based on the strain or mutation of the anticipated flu outbreak for that year. If the bird flu virus adapts in the wrong way, we could be in deep sh*t. At this point, nothing to lose sleep over, but on the other hand, it's something to be aware of.

In DK - every year some 1000-2000 die of the normal flu........

The bird flu has so far killed 100 people in 9 years - mostly in non develpoed countries and people living together with the birds in rural areas / small rural cities with bad health care conditions .....

What about all the other diseases in poor countries (Africa / Asia) - more than 100 people die every 5-10 minute......

The issue is highly exaggerated... when it will become a propblem with mutation, the industry will already have made a vaccine against the disease.....

And like BV said, there will many more restrictions than cancelling a Stones shows - just imagine using the metro system going to work!!!!

These things I'd worry more about, in falling order:

1. Pollution from unnecessary car-driving
2. Intake of cholesterol
3. Stress
4. Driving/traffic
5. Ooool Usama.
6. The Spanish Inquisition

Funny. Maybe they should change their slogan to "finger lickin' death." Actually, no one going to see a Stones concert has to worry about the bird flu. You are only in danger if you're going to a Byrds reunion.

6-10 people die of birdflu every year, 3 millions die of AIDS, not to mention how many that die om malaria etc.
In Great Britain 20-30000 poor people die each year from the effects that they can´t afford to pay for heating.
The effects of birdflu is the biggest hoax in the media for a long time.

The bird's flu is killing birds not people. If you eat a sick dead bird you are in trouble, I mean if it died from bird's flue and not from regular production. One day the bird's fly might mutate into going between people but until that day is happening there is nothing to wory about. Not more than worrying about an airplane is going to fall down and hit you in your head.

well not agreed..

There should be actions taken to prevent the virus mutating, since this is not possible they only thing can happen is take care of enough Tamiflu shit.. cause when it's mutated we are in big, big trouble. And the comparision with AIDS is not fair since aids can't be getted by breathing air, wich will be if the birdflu mutates

a hoax? i suppose it's a clever way for the beef industry to eradicate all the chickens so they can sell more beef. after all, it must of been the chicken producers who fabricated that mad cow thing a few years ago. ;-)

I found interesting to see that in 2003 during the Licks tour, there was SARS and now this is the Bird Flu. It seems that the disease keeps on following the Stones when they are on tour...... Hopefully no Stones fan dies from either of those terrible disease.....
