Im not hip on British slang, but I do know they consider the word "@#$%&" in Rain Fall Down" to be controversial. What does it mean?

I do not think it is a dumb question. I am from the U.S. and apparently that slang word did not make it across the "pond"...I want to know, too.

When I purchased The Office Season 1 DVD (and subsequently Season 2 and the Christmas special), I'm so glad that they included a list of all the British slang terms used and their American definitions! I probably would have been lost without them.

its not really that controversial in some respects, because in most people's experience (mine included), bankers DO indeed tend to be 'wánkers'.

Not a dumb question at all - the German term is "wichser," which is very similar. Well wanking and "whacking off" are pretty similar. I guess a @#$%& would be a "pud-whacker" as we said in high school.

I know the Irish say "to get her up the duff" for "to knock someone up. Apparently it's changed to "to get her up the Damien" because of popular Irish footballer Damien Duff.

I work with a bunch of English and Irish so I hear their slang all the time. It's kind of cool.

It is a very offensive word if you use it in England or UK based culture. In USA I don't think it means much so people might use it by accident without knowing how offensive it is. That is why I have to put stronger limits on the language here on IORR than in an average singular culture. It may insult and offend in a different setting even if it is ok for you and your area.

By the way, there is another MUCH BETTER reason for not using such "offending" words. Most professional anti-spam anti-offense e-mail and web filtering systems will BLOCK any mail or web content having these words, at least they will get a high spam/offense score, so if you really want your message to get through to everybody, then just drop the four lettered and other ofensive words, as more and more people do control their input on internet, and your message will not arive.

A lot of what you would call offensive words are quite commonplace on British Tv these days - particularly on chat shows. There certaintly is not the outcry from the public about this swearing and use of bad language that there used to be.

BTW - here's one thats had me puzzled for a while, can someone tell me what a 'milf' is?? Is it something you screw to the back of your car....?

When belgium people say poepen the meant intercourse when Dutch say poepen the have to go to the bathroom for a big dilevery.
