Parachute woman lyrics meaning

What’s a « parachute woman » ?
Is it a metaphor for a girl coming out of somewhere ? A groupie ?

1/« Parachute woman, land on me tonight
I'll break big in New Orleans and I'll overspill in Caroline »

« Caroline » is it a town or a name ?
It can’t be the State (it would be Carolina)

2/Parachute woman, join me for a ride
I'll make my blow (bread?)(play?)(bed?) in Dallas
And get hot again in half the time

Blow, bread, play or bed ?
Which one makes more sense ?

Baby!(?)
Does he say that, really ?

3/Parachute woman, will you blow me out?
Well, my heavy throbber's itchin' just to lay a solid rhythm down

Well the 3rd verse is enough explicit

Carolina is often referred to as Caroline.

gee, you think it sounds like a screw tune? funny - that's occurred to me too, more than once. :E
thanks for getting that solid rhythm right, Christian - a bunch of lyric sites have it as "solo rhythm", which bugs the hell out of me.
solid rhythm is crucial. :E

A parachute Woman could mean his "Dream" woman falling into his screw day dreams, you know illusive, floating into his mind?

There is a picture of a nude women, legs spread, on the cover of the album. I think we all know where she is going to land.

Parachute Woman

By Jagger/Richards

Parachute woman, land on me tonight

Parachute woman, land on me tonight

Well, I'll break big in New Orleans

And I'll overspill in Caroline

Parachute woman, join me for a ride

Parachute woman, join me for a ride

I'll make my blow in Dallas

And get hot again in half the time

Parachute woman, will you blow me out?

Parachute woman, will you blow me out?

My heavy throbbers itchin'

Just to lay a solo rythm down

Yes but what about the questions about the 1st and 2nd verses?

It has to be "play" in the second verse, doesn't it?

I mean, "make my play" makes sense (and is a fairly common phrase), whereas the other two don't...

oops, sorry! Caroline could indeed be the state, and/or a female name, and/or both at the same time, why not. and "play" sounds good to me.

I think it's all about a good lay........plain and simple.
Imagination.

"Pass it on" (Keith talking about the music)

Thanks everybody!

Between the 2d and the 3rd verse, Do Mick say "baby!" or "Now, I die" (that's
what is written on the R&R circus songbook ?)
Why would he say "Now I die" ?

Another question, the song is from 1968
Do they tour the USA at that time, especially New Orleans, Caroline(a), and
Dallas?

Umm, Mick likes his ladies like a parachute -- spread wide open. I remember that one was going around when the record came out.

Just continuing the old blues tradition of naughty lyrics. If you want something blatant check out Lucille Bogan's out-take of 'Shave Em Dry' from 1936

"I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
I got something between my legs will make a dead man come"

Now where else have I heard that last bit?

yikes - no, of course the Stones didn't tour in 68. they'd done US tours in 64, 65 and 66, and you can check them out here:

I thought that it was about the Queen of England. And the fact that once (Right after the 2nd World War) women's dresses made out of parachute clothing was popular (Or rather: They didn't have any cloth, so they used that).

It pisses me off when we always want to have
straight & clear keys to all the words in the lyrics,
the crypto to the metaphors.

There might be more than one meaning.

Well, we ARE hearing several point of views here, Baboon. Some of them, new to me, at least.

Was just reactin on the first question; people like the Stones
or famous authors, poets, rock lyrics writers etc always are believed
to write about themselves. What if they dont!?

There's a lot of thread in this forum;
Why do you reply to a thread that pisses you off?
If you are not interested in the understanding of songs or correct lyrics,
that's your problem.
