Good choice! I was planning on writing that. But, instead I wrote a joke, some awful "Primitive Cool" lyrics.

My fav is also "the sunshine bores the daylight out of me", that one is truly such a beautiful verse.

But I like very much as well:

"you look so sweet when you're in your jeans but you've grown up all wrong"

Because it sarcastically pictures so well all these young girls we think are hot, yet we also know are a little confused, and this bizarre mixture of sexual arousing and compassion and, sure, a little annoyment because you want her so she has power over you. err... did I mention I teach in university? Got forty students, 35 girls, and I behave correctly - but - ... hope you sympathise with my stress here!

Nice choice!!! : )

For kind of the same reasons you stated, I'm picking this line because it's right up in your face, no wondering what he's singing about!! A kind of "@#$%& yeah, this is life" Good or bad.

>>>>Ah, I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon
And another girl can take my pain away<<<<

"You're a Rag-Trade Girl
You're the Queen of Porn
You're the easiest lay
On the White House lawn"

Man, there so many classic lines, this thread could go on forever.

How about "One day I woke up to find/Right in the bed next to mine/Someone who broke me up with a(the?)corner of her smile" OR

"Just as long as the guitar plays it'll steal your heart away"

Heartbreaker, with your bowling ball
I wanna tear your world apart. . . .

I've always had an affection for the goofiness of this line:

"Waitesses with broken noses/checkout girls striking poses/and politicians' garish wives/with alcoholics ----- like knives."

The entire verse is good, but Jagger's delivery of the lines above is classic, in my opinion.

Lots and lots of lines in many many songs. Anyway,I would choose this one right now cause I just have to go on...:

The day can come when you get old and sick and tired of life
You just never realise
Maybe the choice you made wasn't really right,
but you go out and you don't come back at night
So, I'm just sitting on a fence..

Most of them you already post

"Always took candy from strangers"
Why: I really keith did this when he was young

And the queen is bravely shouting,
What the Hell is going on?

With a blood-curdling "tally-ho"

She charged into the ranks

And blessed all those grandma's who

With their dying breaths screamed, "Thanks!"

And a lot more

For me it says it all.

Hre is an other one, although I like the whole song.

You're the great, gray man whose daughter licks policemen's buttons clean

Why: it's so pedestrian (I hate the word, but as poetry ok)

"Watch my tail lights fade, ain't a dry eye in the house" and "I'm on my way to heaven, 'cuz I've done my time in hell" both capture the essence and attitude of Keith.

Here is one verse of my favorites:

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy
Have some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste

I feel that this is one of the best written songs by the stones especially for a song of this length. Add the music and you have an absolute classic!

Heres another one:

You were still in school
When you had that fool
Who really messed your mind.
And after that you turned your back
On treating people kind.
On our first trip
I tried so hard to rearrange your mind.
But after while I realized you were disarranging mine.

After 40 years this is still relevant to many.

let me hear you say ~*YEAH!*~
come on darlin let me hear you say ~*YEAH!*~

(~*YEAH!*~ four decades later and it still feels so good - thank you Rolling Stones!)

our music:
it's here
and then
it's gone

(what a revelation about art whose medium is time - knocks me speechless)

"What do you want - what?!"
- Keith

The first line which came up in my head was the same as from theboys (time can tear down...), another good one which goes often through my mind is: Don't you think it's sometimes wise not to grow up.
Maybe just because you realize more and more, when you get older, you can't stop time.

So many... but my favourite has to be: "You make a dead man cum".

"got to be worked on
don't have no bark nor bite..."

"Heartbreaker with your bowling ball..."

That's "Heartbreaker with your .44..." (http://kissthisguy.com/lyric.php?id=1365)

My favorite lyric:

Faith has been broken, tears must be cried

Let's do some living, after we die

Re: Best Stones Lyric Line and Why

There are so many great lines ...

Just to mentioned a few I really like:

People think I'm a drinker, but I'm sober half the time (Evening Gown, MJ)

I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon (Dead Flowers)

... in the corner of her smile (Sway)

Why does the doctor have no face? (Sister Morphine)

I'm a flatbed peanut monkey and all my friends are junkies (Monkey Man)

I could continue this thread for hours but don't have the time. Obviously I think the best lyrics were written between 1966 (look at Mother's Little Helper or Paint It Black) and 1978 ("booze and pills and powders, I had to chose my medicine ... I wasn't looking to good but I was feeling real well). They're just great song writers, not more or less.
