what has the 'average Stones fan' got to do with it?
Exile is better - by virtue of having 18 great songs to Sticky Fingers' ten
very hard choice indeed...as some of you already mentioned, though the invidual "class" of some songs of SF (BS, Bitch, WH) may be higher than than those of the songs of Exile, as a whole i consider Exile superior. i think most people agree which songs are the highlights on SF, but the invidual favourites of exile would vary much more (my personal favourites are Soul Survivor, Rocks off, ventilator Blues, Turd on the run, Happy).
Exile....heavily "fuelled" sign of a band in (sad) decline, from which they creatively never fully recovered, though there have been many many many many many highlights since, like It Wont Take Long from 2005 for God's sake, none match, as a whole, the Sticky Fingers experience. Sticky is it....10 slices of pure adrenalin. The Stones at their peak. Brown Sugar to Moonlight Mile....a wonderous journey indeed that NO-ONE has ever matched in fact!
Gotta go with Sticky Fingers. I can listen to that one all the way through (without skipping a song here and there). Plus Moonlight Mile is such a wonderful song IMO. Don't get me wrong, I like Exile but I love SF just a little bit more.
1.Brown sugar 2.Sway 3.Wild horses 4.CYHMK 5.You gotta move 6.Bitch 7.I got the blues 8.Sister morphine 9.dead flowers 10.Moonlight mile ----------------- 1.Loving cup 2.Rocks off 3.All down the line 4.Tumblin' dice 5.Let it loose 6.Shine alight 7.Ventilator blues 8.Torn and frayed 9.Sweet Virginia 10.Sweet black angel
Brown Sugar is the one that does it for me. It is the ultimate rock and roll song. It is sheer joy for me everytime I hear it...I never tire of it. I love the live versions, but nothing tops the SF version for me.
To me, Exile is the single greatest thing the Stones or anyone else has ever done. I might prefer Sticky Fingers on some days or Bleed on others, but Exile has always been the very best IMO. Sticky has great songs, but Tumbling Dice is the purest rock 'n roll ever put on record. Exile is a place where all music peaks, not just the Stones.
Sway, Wild horses,Can`t you hear me knockin`,I got the blues,Sister morhine, Dead flowers and Moonlight mile have all, in a time, been my favourite-song. And you got the funny one, You gotta move. At last you got Brown sugar and Bitch and that is two tremendious song. Maybe you now understand how this album means to me.
SF if I have to vote but I consider SF, EOMS, LIB & YaYas to be four separate testaments to the greatness of the Stones all showing different attributes of the band. Picking between these is like asking which of your children you love the best.
