Introduced 1/20 "Ronnie extremely focused Wood"
Posted by: mr. pitiful ()

Ronnie definately improved from 1/18 but the introduction shows that Mick probably took him aside and told him to shape up. Wednesday, ronnie was extremely unfocused.

the fact that mick introduced ronnie this way last night proves that there is a problem and that the band knows it and also prove that they're trying to deal with it with irony and goodness, guess some fans could learn a lot from that attitude

The fact that Mick introduced Ronnie that way is that Mick knows how complex Sway is live and still they did it and Ronnie nailed it perfectly. So Mick was perfectly happy with a band member doing a great performance. How many other guitarits have handled sway live since it was recorded 35 years ago? I mean with the Stones...

Does anyone have the boot of "Sway" from MSG?

Keep up the good work Ronnie!

sure my post was more critic toward the taylorists and the wood's bashers than toward ronnie, nonetheless it seems that you received it as too much criticism against the band
it is not. it is just an interpretation
you were there
so maybe you're right

so what else can i say?
everything is perfect, the sky is blue and the flowers are blooming

Is Sway complex? Basically two chords isn't it, (the solo bit)?

I'm not a guitarist.

Studio or live it's the same song. If anyone should be used to playing with the Stones, it's Ronnie.

I've not heard how Mick introduces Ronnie. Please enlighten those of us not 'in the know'.

Thanks.

Amazing how we're really hearing 2 different concerts...

One group says Ronnie is "on top of the world"...

And the other group says "theres a problem with Ronnie the band is trying to deal with" and he's "rock and roll's worst lead guitarist"...

lol, who's right ?

"It's just that demon life has got me in it's sway..."

it is the very title of this thread "ronnie extremely focused wood"

so, if it is "basically two chords" what is this fuss about magical mystery taylor and his rolling seventies stones?
if that solo is two chords why praise Taylor so much

true is that sway is a beautiful mick's song. period

Taylor isn't playing two chords on his solo......Mick J was playing them!

Mick Taylor was weaving some magic on a (very) basic chord structure.

Anyway, I've still no idae what MJ might or might not have said to RW.

I've heard their first Sway from last year, and Ronnie wasn't that bad. At least it was DIFFERENT (soory, Italics not available) than Taylor's version.

i am sorry to delude you but i don't feel part of any of the 2 groups as my posts show very well
who's right? i don't know. I think that those who were there at MSG on wed and fri are the most reliable critics
but listening to a boot of fair quality i think entitles to be fairly reliable as a critic
so i've posted elsewhere that i thought it was a good concert with some highlights and a few downs

it happens that among those downs i counted 3 solos of ronnie (but i have to say that i don't like keith's work on gs and the whole band on LSTNT)

and that the same thing happened in some other boots from the first leg

therefore my interpretation of the "funny" introductions of ronnie (this is not the first time that mick makes jokes on ronnie - "rehab ronnie" i think was more harsh)

IMHO that jokes tell that there is an issue about ronnie "being well, in good shape and focused" that is about ronnie "being and playing good"
these jokes IMHO tell also that the problem is being dealt with care and irony

i support this pov, that is neither saying that everything is perfect and that Ronnie is brilliant, nor attacking him as if he was shit and playing just shit

if you can't see the difference the problem is yours

complex?....no it's not....it's rock'n'roll not classical or jazz

i beg your pardon for the irony here. i know and feel the magic of that song as it was recorded. i'm just tired of the comparison between the 2

these very words introducing him friday at the MSG concert in NYC: "ronnie... 'extremely focused' ...wood"

i think that MSG version is tighter and makes it a keeper for the setlist

Well, if it's not complex it would be an easy song to do a live arrangement of. It's anything but easy.

do you play music Mr.Bayou?.....it's not easy for them because they haven't been in their prime for about 20 plus years........you dont need "charts" to play 3 chord rock'n'roll

LOL, Mr. Keringer... I'll accept your challenge of who plays music...

It's real simple... YOU RECORD YOUR LIVE VERSION OF SWAY and post it to this board... That way we can all have a listen and we can finally hear just how easy this song is to play...

You know, without asking ME if I play music, you might ask "Do the Stones play music ??"... of course the answer is Yes... NOW, they have awesome renditions of their own songs, awesome covers of other's songs (like Night Time), etc.

If the Stones have some difficulty arriving at a thrilling live arrangement of this song, doesn't that give you some reason to pause and think "hmmm... maybe arranging this thing live is not as easy as I thought"...

BUT, I know you won't disappoint us... so get your band together, play those easy 3 chords and I'll be looking forward to your live version in what.... perhaps a couple days ?? Shouldn't take longer than that.

maumau,

f..u..c..k... am I dim?! Thanks. Remind me to ask you to remind me how to spell my own name.

Well, if Mick introduced Ronnie that way........ I'll concur with your interpretation ..... rather than Bjornulf's.

I hope the song stays......or at least recurs periodically.

there's nothing difficult about "arranging" Sway. Other, so-called lesser bands (Crowes, Carla Olson's band) have do it with aplomb and have done it magnificently and likely with very little rehearsal time.

1/20 was the best ronnie i've ever heard -- i HATE to say it , absolutely HATE to say it , but he carried keith at the 1/20 show

I suppose you'll tell me there's nothing difficult about arranging Sister Morphine either... and it was very rough when first introduced on B2B Tour...

Of course, anyone can play it... the question is nailing the authentic sound.

I stand by my previous post that Ronnie was seemed a bit detached on Wednesday, and his playing a bit rote. Although I actually enjoyed Wednesday's show more (primarily because I love Mick on the Harp and was blown away by Worried About You), Friday was much, much better from Ronnie's perspective. That's my opinion anyway.

What did Mick say during the introduction?

Gee, it's no SECRET that there's a serious problem with Ronnie, some nights the problem is more noticeable than on other nights! I have seen him simply standing there and seen Blondie, back stage filling in! Mick is very patient and kind, I wonder what Keith really feels about it all. Mick has been the big suppoter of Ronnie's rehab along with Josie. I am sensing that Keith gets more impatient and annoyed but I can't be sure; Keith is big-hearted but has a different relationship with Ronnie. It's obvious the band has decided to keep Ronnie and work with him, or he'd have been long gone!
