Is Ronnie the worst lead guitar player in Rock?

His lead breaks on Start me Up and Tumbling Dice were incredibly out of tune on wednesday night at the garden. The reason Mick Taylor's name is brought up on this board 32 years after he quit is because we Stones fans need and deserve a player to complement and add to the incredible wealth of songs Mick and Keith have written. Switch Ronnie to bass and bring in a talented player like Slash to give this music a kick it deserves!

I have heard Woody play more than 20 times, and he has done a great job.

Worst Lead Guitar Players- I can think of two right off the top of my head:

KISS- Ace Frehley
Motley Crue -Mick Mars

How can he not be in tune, tho? They have a bunch of guys tuning every guitar before it is handed to them.

Yeah, the guitar may be in tune, but if ya play an E chord to a song written in F, you´re stillout of tune. And this is exactly what Ronnie does.

Do the girls still scream, when you perform on stage? KR: Not on stage, but when I perform, yeah.

You mean like the end of the solo in Oh No Not You Again? That is deliberate (I think/hope)

Slash is more "Keith Like" than "Mick Taylor-like"... if you have Slash and Keith up there, u got 2 Keiths...

Would be interesting, though

Lol...

What you don't understand is that John Frusciante is THE GUY to play guitar over Flea and Chad Smith's lines... You don't want a heavy-handed lead when u got Flea and Chad on rhythm... u need a guy who can play one eccentric guitar line after the other and there's nobody better than J.F... ANYONE would have taken the RHCP gig if they were offered... all the best young guitarists in the world would die for that slot.

AND, obviously, you never attended an RHCP gig because you would be blown outta your seat and sticking against the wall.

Frusciante is the right guitarist for that band.

Keith could take all the leads, and Joan Jett could play rhythm. With black hair, she even looks a little like Woodie.

How the &^%$# you have Mick Mars as a "worst" lead guitarist ?? Ever seen them this tour ??

Motley blows the entire arena up. and there's only 3 musicians... think Mick Mars doesn't have anything to do with their success ??

lead guitar player doesn't mean overall guitar player.
Overall Ronnie is OK, but has dropped dramatically over the years. He can still play quite well if he isn't drunk!
Lead guitar, on the other hand, is a train wreck for poor old Ronnie....

It´s very sad, but nowadays he´s the worst. Yes. It´s got nothing to do about misstakes when someone constantly plays a song in the wrong key. And - on top of that - looks very happy and proud of what he´s doing.

Sad sad sad

The peppers are responsible for the worst gig I have ever seen. And I've seen quite a few.
Incredible out of tune vocals, a bassplayer playing 3456 notes in a second (I hate 'musicians' like that), Fruciante in his own world, not listening to the other bandmembers. Only the drummer was alright.

Sad thing. I often complained about Ronnies guitar work on the US tour last year and hoped that he will recover and improve his playing. Bad news. If he would try to go some new ways of style, some mistakes would be excusable, but there is nothing what is new and he destroys many songs completely. E.g. the first live version of "Sway", great interpretation from Keith, it rocks more than the studio version, I like it, and then comes Ronnie with a boring nonsense solo, terrible ...

Let me tell you the ONE THING that is CERTAIN... nothing else is certain, but this is:

If Mick Taylor were playing every night with the Stones then every night we would be reading posts about how Charlie sucks, or Keith Sucks, or MT sucks... or Darryl sucks, or Chuck sucks....

AND VERY FEW PEOPLE want to admit that the real problem, just like every reviewer has ever said, is the lame audiences.

Yeah, don't you DARE trash Born On The Bayou's beloved RHCP or he'll fly off the handle on you...

BOTB, why don't you let up on the third degree and go back to "dirty old man" threads about which concerts to find slutty young girls at? Not everyone has an encyclopedic memory for the date and time they last saw the Chili Peppers...

It was the tour for Californication.
When they played Belgium. I must say it was a festival (Pukkelpop), but still... I never seen a band suck like that.

After that gig they became the standard for aweful concerts for me and my friends (including some Peppers fans... not anymore though... after By The Way everyone that I know that once liked 'em, began to hate them when they released By The Way... and rightfully so... terrible album. And also the way they act... maybe appealing to 15 year olds... but I can't stand them anymore.)

Lol, if By The Way was so bad then why did they HEADLINE so many European FESTIVALS during the By The Way Tour ???

And why was the Live DVD filmed in front of only 80,000 screaming Europeans at Slane Castle ??

Too bad "you and your friends" weren't there....

The RHCP is incredibly popular in Europe... you should know that. If you look at the tour schedules you see they play Europe about as much as the States. Even when they were not on any official tour last year they still played many gigs in Europe in the summer.

Errrr... the quality of the latest cd has nothing to do with headlining.

If David Bowie releases the worst cd ever, he won't be opening festivals, but he will be headlining.

You don't have to like cd's because the band is headlining. The peppers are popular... but I don't like bands because they're popular. I like bands because they're good. Who gives a damn about popularity.
And they're popular with nearly only 15 year olds...

By the way is crap, period.

I liked them when I was a teenager (not so long ago). And I still consider BSSM & Californication as excellent albums. But they were never a good live band, always been one of the worst and Kiedis is the most responsible for that.
