Any of several boots where by definition they weren't able to overdub the recording later in the studio. Examples: Detroit '69 (awesome sound from Keith), the version from MSG in '69 that's on the boot 'Stoned MSG.'

For historical interest, there's the version of JJF at the first Oakland '69 show where Keith's and Bill's amps blow out, so that it's just Mick, Charlie and Mick Taylor. Taylor is forced to play rhythm throughout and, well, let's just say it gives one an even greater appreciate for Keith.

It may not be the best version, but the sb reherrsal show "89 (Better than the Rebirth", Kieth plays part of opening guitar riff like on the studio version. Really like it alot!

In My Humble Opinion...
the JJF which opens the film, GIMME SHELTER, was riveting the first time i heard it, 35 years ago, and remains so today... this is quite a contrast to the JJF found on Ya-Ya's which, of course, was recorded with the same 24 hour period...
not bad, but heavily overdubbed! if you can, listen to the same version of the song on the Apple acetate, which is mcuh better

the version from Baltimore '69, recorded a day or so earlier, is a close contender

'89 Philly stadium rehearsals, Keith begins with the classic studio riff and slips then into the usual live one, first and last time I heard Keith doing so.

Nah!! How about the fast paced version from Brussels in '73! The prolonged jam in '78 is also awesome. Keith continues to play this song with conviction so on most nights this is still one of the best played numbers in their set, along with Midnight Rambler.

I like the Ya-Ya's version the best. So much drive in that song. Nice and fast.

Leonard Keringer, yes!

Oh, and lest we EVER forget:

ALTAMONT '69 - THE SLOWEST, LOUDEST, KEEFEST version of JJF EVER!

Yes, I was there and so were people with tape recorders. The Altamont version of JJF - their opening song of the concert (of course) - is the most demonic version of all time.

Altamont 69. In 69 they really had it nailed. I like R&R Circus too.

Just about all of them are pretty good.My least favorite are the '75-'89 versions.Montreal on April 20,1998 is worth mentioning.

You were at Altamont? what was that really like? Looked pretty intense according to 'Gimme Shelter', the movie.
