Not that I want to make this into a thread about Mick's attire, but I think it is the same jumpsuit in both photos. I think the color looks lighter just because of different lighting, and in these shots below you can see that one side of the jumpsuit is sparkly stripes & the other side is sparkly dots:

Well, I don't know about the one you played,
but the one I had wasn't too bad.
All guitars are different. You should know that.
I had an SG once and a friend of mine got one that was the same year, setup, etc,
and mine sounded light years better than his. Same pickups, blah blah.
Looked like the same damn guitar.
Pull any Tele off the wall and they all play and feel differently.
Same with Gibsons, Ricks, etc...
They were certainly better than the Explorer or those BC Rich guitars.
Remember those awful things?

In the last pic of Keith at the Terry Reid show I also think this is a borrowed guitar. He is even holding it like a foreign being. Keith usually cradles his guitars. This one here he is still obviously giving a look over.
Must say that at first Reptile's very keen observation really threw me. I was positive there was only one Nocaragua show and have never ever seen Keith in that extra cool white outfit anywhere else. especially playing the white SG. (When I got my very first electric I chose a white SG completely because of those photos). So kudos to browneyes for clearing that one up.
BTW Lady Sssoul do you really not like the look of the white SG? In Keith's hands? IMO it looks probably as smooth as humanly possible.

yeah, i really don't like the look of SGs - they look crabby to me, in all the senses of the word.
how Keith looks is an entirely different issue, obviously! he does indeed look definitively brilliant in those shots, despite the SG.

and Keith seems to have borrowed guitars in all the shots i've seen from that Terry Reid gig, so ... so i'm glad you agree. :E

That looke like an old Les Paul Special, with maybe replaced Humbuckers.
originally they would either be P-90 Single coils or closed PAF Humbuckers.
the newer ones would have a stop-tail-piece

and of course the pic above was edited to concentrate on the important part of it, not cut out. ;-)

A late '70's Special. From '77 on, Gibson sales really declined, and they started to experiment in order to attract new markets. This is one of the experiments: a Special with Dimarzio pickups. By the way, Keith did use this guitar on stage in 1982.

About the L6S: of course I know there can be drastic differences between guitars that appear to be exactly the same. But, with the L6S I personally feel the guitar is intrinsically bad: bad shape, bad wood, bad playability, bad finish, bad pickups. It just is in my opinion in any sense a very badly made guitar. Together with the Marauder (wich is even worse due to the vibrato that doesn't stay in tune), these guitars are Gibson's worst. Again, in my humble opinion.

I was going for an older modell, because of the one-piece bridge.
thought the reissued Specials all had a stop-tail-piece extra.

This bridge actually isn´t original it seems, it looks like a badass bridge.

Ah, the Marauder. Now that was Gibson's lowest point.
I forgot about that one. Horrible.
Closing the L6S topic, I just remember mine being pretty good.
Ceretainly wasn't the best I've owned, but certainly not the worst.
Then again, I've never played one since, so...

ahh thank you open-g and Mathijs - i thought it was a Special, but was confused by the pick-ups.
it's a good-lookin instrument - was it a worthy experiment?

yep, he sure did! has he ever used any other Specials on stage?
it's interesting that Ronnie seems to dig Specials a lot, while Keith clearly prefers Juniors ...

Great pic S Soul!!!

On the left is an old style LP junior wrap-around bridge, on the right it shows a badass bridge.
In both cases the strings are threaded from the pickup side of the guitar and wrapped over the top of the bridge.
It is quite obvious that the badass is superior.
It allows you to intonate each string individually where the original bridge did not.

this is what the Blue Book of Electric Guitars (http://www.gibson.com/Files/downloads/bluebook/GibsonElectrics.pdf) has to say about the Spirit series:

SPIRIT I - double cutaway mahogany body, bound figured maple top, tortoise shell pickguard, mahogany neck, 2 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, tunable wrapover bridge, blackface peghead with logo decal, 3 per side tuners with plastic buttons, chrome hardware, 1 exposed humbucker pickup, volume/tone control. Available in Natural, Red and Sunburst finishes. Mfd. 1982 to 1988.

SPIRIT II - similar to Spirit I, except has no pickguard, 2 exposed humbuckers pickups, 2 volume/1 tone controls.

Spirit II XPL - similar to Spirit I, except has bound fingerboard, Kahler vibrato, 6 on one side tuners, 2 exposed humbuckers pickups, 2 volume/1 tone controls. Mfd. 1985 to 1987

okay so i'm officially Still Confused by this Spirit II. the one Keith's got in these photos
has a different configuration of controls than the one described in the Blue Book and in the "generic" Spirit II photos.
was Keith's model a prototype or something? have some popcorn ...

I love the look of those non-reverse Firebirds! They look weird, but not heavy metal weird!

smile: i never liked 'em myself - they make more sense to me than the reverse models, but not enough sense.
i admit they do look pretty hip with Keith behind them, though. :E
