A few things come to light, one that Mick possibly intentified himself as Kali ( in relation to the tongue logo ) in his 70's performances, an auto ego state persona he takes to the stage. It goes beyond the stage in relation to Keith's nickname for Mick, "Brenda", he certainly appeared to evoke feminine.

Secondly that Keith not committing this year could be tit for tat reaction to Mick deciding not to tour in 2025. Yes i think Keith can be that stubborn.
I actually think Keith has no interest in playing next year with the Stones, it's too long a lay off to get his chops back next year after what will be a 3 year pause.

Thirdly Ronnie seems to have replaced Keith in promotion activity.
My gut feeling is Keith wants out of the Stones now, could he be sick of Micks obsession with youth if you follow. I remember Keith as far back as the late 80's saying he wants to see this thing grow up, referring to being middle age men writing and performing rock music. I guess Keith didn't get his wish.

keithriffhards, I think it’s a combination of Ronnie happening to be based in London and he generally being more of approachable and media-friendly person, generally. If this had been a radio interview in New York, perhaps Keith may have participated.

Keith may not have got his wish but he seemed happy enough with the money.

I don't think pointing out that Ronnie replaced Keith on Fallon and Keith possibly declined an interview with the BBC is causing a Mick vs Keith War, the War was won by Mick a long time ago.
With today's technology you telling me Keith couldn't have linked up for an interview on air. He clearly doesn't want to do it.

Great stuff ! I was struck by the "selling song" comments, both by Mick about how the Beatles were trying to sell songs to everyone (hence the "I wanna by your Man" single"...exactly like he did in the Rutles ! At the time I thought it was a joke, but possibly a wry comment too ;-)

Ronnie said the same about "selling" songs to the Stones, like "Hey Negrita" and then "Dance". Now he could have meant that as "trying to get them interested in his stuff of course, but with Mick's comment it put it in a different light. Also interesting to hear Ronnie saying he had a small tape recorder to record all the ideas for songs he keeps having...when he hasn't released any new material in 15+ years and very little over the past 40 years.

Mick is usually quite graceful but it was disappointing to not to hear him mention Andrew Oldham as the one who "locked them up" to force them to write their own songs when he answered in a detail to how they came about to writing songs with Keith...or maybe that old story is a fabrication ?

Ah and "Mr. Charm" seems to be a song to look forward to !

Mick's femminine side is indeed very interesting. I wonder what Mick makes of gender constructivist ideas and the modern trans movement. I don't recal him ever talking about these topics. Maybe too political for his taste.

I don't see this as a Mick v Keith thing at all.
To me, it's a very clear indication that Keith is perhaps 'winding down' a bit recently. But then I guess we all knew that anyway really.

I was struck by it, too.

Mick is useful for "de-mythology." The legend has always had it that John and Paul made up the song on the spot and gave it to the Stones as an act of charity or solidarity (however you want to look at it).

Even the details man Bill Wyman saw it that way — "they could do things like that; we couldn't."

And the truth of course is more complicated.

Just like Mick and Keith writing their first song while locked in a kitchen — not completely true, either. They had been writing and trying to sell songs before that. They just didn't consider them very worthy.

Great interviews!
The interviewer is very intuitive and you can tell both Mick and especially
Ronnie appreciate it.
