OT: UK Publishes draft law on ticket resale

The UK Govt has very recently published draft legislation governing ticket resale.

See [www.nme.com]

Core of draft bill here...

It would make it illegal to resell a ticket at more than its original cost, cap service fees, make it illegal to resell more tickets than you are entitled to buy, place obligations on resale platforms and empower the Competition and Markets Authority to impose tough fines.

In Germany, on 11-May-2026, an open letter by German musicians was published demanding regulation of the secondary ticket market - [RollingStone.de] , [FAZ.net] . The demand for a German law: [Tagesschau.de] .

For many years, there have also been initiatives against dynamic pricing, but so far without any solutions.

This would be excellent. Hope it works out.

Good news. That would remove artists' frequent excuse for high ticket prices that ‘someone's going to end up earning hundreds from each ticket so it might well be me’

I live in England. The most I ever paid for Stones tickets was £129 in 2018 (Manchester - side view, about ten rows up, level with end of the cat walk) and I consider that a high price to pay in a venue with 50,000 seats.

The prices people talk about paying on this and other boards with many US members are horrific,

No it wouldn't. They have expenses and frankly, are entitled to charge whatever someone might pay. Recorded music has been devalued so much and as is the case with legacy artists, even the Rolling Stones, they were unable to keep much of the full value of what they were producing at the time.

We are talking the most frivolous of activity targeting the most disposable of income. It costs what it costs, but if it costs more than you want to pay, it's OK not to go.

No law will ever compensate for being an educated and disciplined consumer
