It's a video, folks. Mick hasn't done tons of plastic surgery, he's out there all the time, people see his wrinkles, etc. He's not trying to hide something here.

Re: In The Stars - Oficial Video

Using AI might be controversial but the video isn't wrong, actually it fits to the flow of the song and especially the younger audience may like it.

Maybe they should have merged into their current appearance at the end. But it's an artistic decision how to shape the clip.

Video like these

could be also criticised.

Enjoy In the stars! ;-)

I have watched the video once, forcing myself to watch it through, even if it is disgusting, but I will never watch it again.

It is not The Stones. It is Mick Jagger insisting on not growing old. For ages he has been doing the same. At the El Rey promo show in 2001 he hired a bunch of video models. They were placed in the front, nice young girls to talk to, paid $200 each, short, in order not to stand out too much. Security asked us older looking peoople in the attendance to move aside, to let the paid models a third of our age, in their early 20's to the front. The same happened in every promo shooting, like Beacon Theatre, Fonda and so on. Paid short video models, some times even young boys, in their early 20's at the most, paid $200 each to make the Stones fans look young.

Now I understand why Keith looked a bit lost during the press meetings. He just did not approve of any of this. Ronnie had no vote. So Mick got what he wanted.

If it is stand-in's, lookalikes or AI does not matter. It is not the Stones, and it is not their fans.

There is something called "growing old gracefully". Then there is something called desperation. I am sure a psycologist or a social anthropologist will have a better analysis of it.

A bunch, 10+ drummers, same with keyboards and bass players, non looking like Darryl, Steve, Chuck or Matt. Professional dancers. It is not my band. Not my friends in the "crowd". It is a time machine back to the 70's, but I just can not get myself into watch it anymore. It is probably ment for the younger fans.

I will check what my grandchildren think. They have seen the Stones live, they might have an opinion on this video.

The Stones have now become Mick’s band—at least in terms of image—and you’re right to point out all that staged audience in the front row, it’s unsettling and laughable. Even a bit pathetic. This video is just a disheartening extension of that choice. I’m surprised to see the volume of negative comments coming from the band’s fans (see the French fans’ Facebook page). And this is just the beginning.

All I know is I can’t get this song out of my head, and that’s with very limited listening. So they went to LA for a month and banged out 10 new songs organically I have to believe by today’s standards. One month!! Who’s the creative force behind this? Has to be Jagger, I can’t see my beloved Keith standing at a console like he did in 1969 listening to Brown Sugar giving his nod of approval. Not that he didn’t enjoyed the 30 days of artistry.

My family and friends have moved on from the Stones nobody that I know outside this forum gives a rat’s ass. Lol but I feel blessed to still have this group active they have really never left me and me them.

I have other many musical interests but nothing compares at the end of the day.

Sometimes Jagger needs to give us a “boop” on the nose with his ground up partially fingerless mannequin hand. A loving boop to brighten our day

As I wrote, it could be better if they morphed into their current appearance at the end. But I think these negative posts or reviews are overreacted and overthought. The marketing presentation of the new album and songs is a bit "rough and twisted", it also could be better arranged and scheduled, but ... you can't always get what you want ....

Bless your big heart BV for your honesty.

It actually goes back further, i remember an article at the time at the release of the Let's Work video in 1987, Mick paid an awful lot of money to have a special screen for the video to make him appear young.

I respect that Mick hasn't gone the way of surgery though, nothing worse than botox and fillers on a man's face.

I hate ageing, we all hate it, what a drag it is getting old Mick once sang, i suspect he's always felt that way.

I actually think Mick should feel proud of how great he looks at almost 83, and people are fascinated and love his looks, such a pity he doesn't see it that way.

I MAY be wrong as I certainly don’t have time to read everything on IORR, but this is the first time I’ve ever read BV so overly, totally critical of The Stones.

Exactly my feeling when I read bv's comment. It seems like a turning of the tides that bv doesn't even attempt to defend the Stones in any way. And I think he is absolutely right.

"So they went to LA for a month and banged out 10 new songs organically I have to believe by today’s standards."
No, they were in a studio in Chiswick for a month, and, as Ronnie said, with Andrew Watt behind them as producer, got things done that they'd just leave unfinished before Andrew came on board.

How great that they have another significant Andrew, at the start and at the end of their journey...

I have only been able to watch clips of the AI/stand in one, the Keef was so egregious - looks like Jeff Beck's lumpy older bruvver - but I still love the two videos of the old dudes cracking up and cranking it out in the studio in Chiswick. That's the Stones man.

Disagree, not so much Mick's creative force now, more likely down to the Wizard Andrew. I'd love to know what tricks he's using, something doesn't ring true since Angry.

You got virtually nothing from Mick for 18 years and then.

That they are nearing the end of the line must have helped them with motivation. And having someone like Andrew that gets tracks ready without endless recordings and mixings for sure helped. What an excellent taskmaster, whipping all these old sods into action and young artists too!. Is he too fast for his own good, certain things require time ? Does he use tricks, sure...if the end justifies the means, would he even tell his clients ? Like a Doctor, surgeon, wizard as you wrote.

What I find strange about Hackney Diamonds is that you don't really have different takes of a song, like you always did with the Stones. You have 1 perfectly mixed song and that's it. No demos or takes that go wrong or anything.

Before the Voodoo Lounge CD-Rom came out I thought I was going to escape the computer age, never having to deal with it. No kidding! Now AI is on the scene and to be honest I think unless a person is in their 70s they're going to have to learn how to adapt to it. Maybe I'm wrong but certainly we're not leaving this world the same way we came into it.

Love all the melts
Next they will complain that the animated cat in Harlem Shuffle is fake, the band aren’t really giants in the Love is Strong clip and that Micks Hard Woman clip with the 80s animation is way over the top.
Stones have always f@cked about with new technologies
I love it and it brings such good vibes and energy to the song

No way are the Stones now in their close to mid 80s gonna faff about in multiple 12-14 hour days doing video shoots for a 4 min film clip

It’s really just the 2026 version of crying about the use of electric guitars, or cars instead of horse and buggies

Just turn it up and get loose

I understand your sentiments, this Stones is better than no Stones but where does it end, when have they crossed the line.

Possibly everything dawned on Keith on Conan, he had this perplexed look on his face when he realised he was inside someone else's creation.

My feeling is Keith won't want to have much to do with this in the future, i think he's out of his depth, we will see soon enough.

What is evident is that Mick is going out to please younger people not his lifelong fans.

As i say, great but where does it end, when is the line crossed.

I don't think this crosses the line but it's getting there.

As Bob Dylan writes, it's not dark yet but it's getting there.

Okay I'm out of here, enjoy.

making of in the stars

More than six decades after their record-breaking debut, The Rolling Stones are once again at the center of the conversation around music and technology with the premiere of the video clip for “In The Stars”, a single previewing their upcoming album Foreign Tongues. The release marks not only a new chapter in the history of the British band, but also a new example of how classic rock is beginning to enter into dialogue with artificial intelligence tools.

The video was directed by François Rousselet and features digitally rejuvenated versions of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, created with deepfake technology developed by the company Deep Voodoo. The result recreates the look and feel of the Stones during their most culturally explosive years in the 1960s and 1970s, showing the band at a party filled with visual references to their classic era.

The contrast in time becomes one of the most striking aspects of the project: The Rolling Stones released their first single, “Come On”, in June 1963. Now, in 2026, 63 years after that first release, the group continues to release new material and explore new visual technologies, strengthening one of the most remarkable examples of longevity in the history of popular music.

“In The Stars” works as a bridge between generations. While the images show an almost rejuvenated version of the Stones, the recording itself comes from musicians who are now over 70 and 80 years old. The production also features actress Odessa A’zion and forms part of a new recording phase following the success of Hackney Diamonds.

Beyond the technological controversy, the release confirms something unusual in rock history: The Rolling Stones continue to find ways to reinvent themselves more than half a century after the start of their career, a record of artistic durability that few bands have managed to maintain at this level of activity, cultural impact and worldwide relevance.

To be honest, I have no understanding for that discussion!

The Rolling Stones - to me it´s 100 % about the music, the songs, the records.

And of course their live appearance. I saw them seven times; experiences for a lifetime!!

Anything else, album covers, videos etc: secondary, unimportant promotion tools - to me!

And they have done all kind of videos!

2000 LYFH: psychedelical

JJF : dangerous

Angie : very 70ies

IORR : ridiculous

SMU : simplistic

WOAF : naturalistic (my all time favorite!)

UCOTN : dramatic, overloaded

SWH : funny

HS : cool

LIS : using technical gimmmickry

Did I enjoy all those videos? No, certainly not!

And now they promote ITS with that AI-video: weird, disturbing.

My advice: if you don´t like it - just ignore it! Don´t even think about it!

Let´s praise our boys for creating new music!

Enjoy the new songs, enjoy the new album!

Priest

Really, who cares? This isn't some plot, we know the deal. We go to a concert and we see who they are. Or in all the interviews they've just done. Even in all the early segments they released, the first version of the video, it's them. They aren't trying to hide something, or "get away" with something.

Look at the damn new album cover.

It'll be one and done, there won't be another video where they do this. They had some fun with it, you like it or you don't but it doesn't define the end of an era, "Keith now isolated from the band", or "Jagger refusing to grow old".

These are ridiculous assertions. I doubt very much that when the boys went drag in HYSYMBSITS, the pundits in the day going crazy over them revealing their transgender nature. They were up for a bit of fun, and it's no different here.

Or when Keith shoots Mick in Undercover that something nefarious was being communicated.

I guess I have to applaud them that in their 7th decade they're still able to generate "controversy".

I find all this quite amusing and if Mick was behind the idea for deepfaking their faces in their promo video, mission accomplished.

I’m on the other end of the spectrum: I don’t think the song is all that great, but I find the video entertaining. It’s no masterpiece methinks but it’s made me appreciate the track more.
On the use of artificial intelligence, I’d like to make two points:
1. The whole discussion centres on that, but in reality the video is full of flesh-and-blood performers and it’s clear the video was designed that way. This also serves a specific promotional purpose: if you’re active on social media, you’ll have noticed that the video or images linked to the ‘making of’ have been shared by countless pages belonging or linked to those young performers, exponentially multiplying the reach of the video and the song. Like it or not but that is also what the stake of the video is.
2. The conversation about artificial intelligence is obviously a daily topic where I live and work, and I’m familiar with critical views—even highly critical and dismissive ones but I must say that in this forum I’m encountering perhaps the most extreme examples I’ve ever come across. I consider myself kind of a skeptical optimistic on that matter so this surprises me a lot, especially considering that the Stones, as someone already mentioned, have always taken advantage of their stature and available resources to experiment with new technologies when it comes to promotion or stage design, to name just one other example. Looking back, a gigantic stage machine like the one used for Steel Wheels and subsequent tours seems far more ‘monstrous’ to me than the decision to test the potential of AI. Also the debate it has sparked turns out to be in perfect, classic ‘Stones’ style methinks

Agree, it's just nuts the over-analysis of this thing. It has nothing to do w/ the song, & if they were trying to hide their age, why are they on Fallon or whatever other shows they are doing?

"...in their 7th decade they're still able to generate "controversy" ..."
Well they are not even generating 'controversy' , it's being generated by a few 'fans' that are trying to make way more out of it than it is.

As someone else mentioned ... they weren't really trying to make people think they were actually giants, like was depicted in the Love Is Strong video.

Well they are not even generating 'controversy' , it's being generated by a few 'fans' that are trying to make way more out of it than it is.

As someone else mentioned ... they weren't really trying to make people think they were actually giants, like was depicted in the Love Is Strong video.

Could you imagine the "alternate" version of this video, where we have the crowd as a bunch of baby boomers with walkers and canes swaying from side to side, attempting to dance, maybe falling, huddled in a bathroom taking drugs (statins and blood pressure meds, shooting up ozempic) and Mick the only person in the room capable of actual movement?

It would certainly be more "true", but that would have been a lot more "startling" in my opinion.
