I love the video. It is artistic, creative, edgy, using the possibilities and new technology available now. It is the Rolling Stones looking forward, going west...
Only death will stop them. Go on Rolling Stones, keep having fun!

AMEN....

Instead of being happy that we have new content from The Stones all the time, some people complain like little children or boring old geezers... The world is changing, if you can't come to terms with it, turn off your computer.

Well, without getting into details, let me just say this: I work with education. Teenagers/young people in their 20s do not know how to read and write anymore. And it’s far worse than that. They have simply stopped thinking. They cannot navigate the streets of their own hometown without Google maps. They don’t know how to lace their own shoes without asking SIRI. Every life problem is supposed to be consulted and fixed by ChatGPT. They are the most helpless generation in the history of mankind. This happens simultaneously when we are facing existential threats such as climate change and world war. A driving force behind the stupidity, ignorance, and polarity, are AI, social medias, algorithms etc. That is why some of us are not exactly thrilled when The Rolling Stones (who was born out of the ashes from WW2, being anti-war and anti-authoritarian in their lyrics and expressions, such as encouraging people to think for themselves, and embracing freedom and liberty for decades) suddenly turned to "the dark side." I don’t know what the exact word is – regression, atavism. But fact is, AI is a threat to democracy, harmony, peace, stability, free speech, freedom, creativity, integrity, and rock & roll. I dare say that anyone who disagrees with that, do not understand the potential monster of AI. And that is why some of us are disappointed with our favourite band right now. It is not about being “negative” for the sake of it. It is because AI is truly damaging.

I don't think choosing the Stones as your "whipping post" to show your disdain for AI is particularly compelling. I happen to agree with you on AI, but it's been determined that this isn't even AI strictly speaking.

Secondly, complaining about AI and professing your disappointment isn't doing anything at all to make things better on a Stones site.

It may be in fact "the worst" way to address the issue.

It’s a flop as a single, and it’s a flop for the Stones... Everything else is just denial, you can love the band and still face the (sad) reality head-on.

Comparing the single to Ringo's album is not apples to apples.

Foreign Tongues will chart.

In all honesty we live in a world where the line between truth and fiction is so politically driven it becomes untenable, add to that the confusion of AI into the mix and you find everything becomes a potential conspiracy.
What this successfully does is evade the truth, in the end the only tools you have left to discern truth from fiction is your own knowledge, intuition and insight, YOUR truth.

First: you can't compare the singles ranking with the albums ranking, they are two completely different things.

And then: Ringo's latest album didn't even make it into the Billboard Top 200. Those alternative sales charts are meaningless since physical sales are so low that being in the Top 10 doesn't guarantee a spot on the Billboard 200 without streaming. That's what happened to Ringo and so many others. His album sold 8,500 copies and was #9 in sales, but the #200 album on the Billboard 200 accumulated 9,400 copies with streaming, so it wasn't even close to appearing on the main chart.

Glad the stones are having fun with us fans--more power to them.
I'm not interested in AI because eventually it will be very troublesome.
Instead I marvel at the work of Jeremy Bares and Mel Belli while waiting for
July 10.
Ringo is a silly chap who once belonged to a kiddie band.

Sounds made up to me ... why would someone show this to students.

Maybe because I teach university classes, and sometimes these are small groups with good rapport who know perfectly well that their professor is a fan of the Rolling Stones? And no, it wasn’t the opinion of every single student at a university with thousands of students — just the general impression of a small group of a dozen or so people who happened to attend that particular class.

I assumed you were referring to teaching, the story is what sounds made up. So you're sitting in a classroom, and say to the class -- hey how about we watch the new Stones video and see if you all agree w/ me that it sucks? And somehow, even though amongst old crotchety fans they are split close to 50-50, you found the 12 students of youth, i.e. those that are growing up w/ AI, that all agree w/ your assessment?

Maybe I blew things out of proportions, maybe I am totally wrong. In the end, I just didn’t like the video for reasons already pointed out. Sorry if I caused a stir, but I thought a thread about a boring song could need a little spark! I’ve shared my views, so I will now step back from this thread and wait for the next single. If you like In The Stars – both song and video, good for you, and keep enjoying it! The Rolling Stones is a versatile band that have always attracted fans with different tastes and opinions. If Foreign Tongues will dissapoint me, I’ll still have a couple of Ronnie shows to look forward to. A gig with Ronnie will be as rough and unpolished as rock music comes. There’s plenty for all of us.

First of all I would advice everyone here NOT to get personal. Everyone have the right to say their own opinion, without being chased or bullied.

Secondly, please keep focus on the SONG, that is why this thread is called "Track Talk". I know I was stupid by merging the video thread into this thread, it is too late to undo.

Thirdly, it is strange that this thread "In The Stars - Track Talk", is getting 700 comments over 23 pages, and counting, while the "Rough And Twisted" thread is down to 100 comments and just 4 pages. Sure there was the vinyl thread, but still, they are both songs on the coming album.

Is it the video? Is it just too offending? Personally, I never bothered much about any video, for me the music is the post important part.

Back to the video: I found it interesting aside from the joyous musical celebration of In the Stars was the inclusion of cigarette smoking. Lol I think Odessa A’zion needed her own prop cause she really didn’t add much star power

Right, Rip This! I'm not even defending the video, not ever sure if I liked it (I only viewed it once) ... I'm just amazed how it's ruined some peoples lives, lol.

But the song, as it should be, is the focus .... and a very good song it is! I've read comparisons to tracks such as Rock/Hard Place, Doom & Gloom, etc. I can see that but this song is significantly better - not sure why, maybe because I like the chorus a lot - the guitar interplay is great, as is the short-but-sweet guitar solo.

What facts are you referring to, what facts do you have that proves AI will not become a threat to humanity. I can't believe you are that naive unless you have some sort of agenda or closed mindset. Apologies if I've got you wrong and you are not that guy.

And as for reality have you seen the double slit experiment ? ( the wave function blueprint )

Observations possibly determin the physical world, this is science.

Reality is observer dependent, consciousness creates reality, what reality do you speak of where people tell you this or that is facts, and this and that is fiction. Do these people you get your facts from have no ulterior motive, can you be sure of that.

The only facts we can attain are the ones we draw from life experience and observations, we can't tell other people their facts for them, everything is subjective not just the Rolling Stones, i like to think our world is full of endless possibilities. winking smiley

No idea why you brought up AI or that scenario - which started a while ago and is spreading worse than an all the viruses in the world combined.

The facts I'm referring to include the aspect of no information, which for some people seems to be a welcoming aspect of conspiring with dramatic opinion based in absolute fantasyland that, obviously, has zero relevance: the skeleton of the wrong opinion.

I don’t want to loop this topic any further, but I’d like to point out a fact about the video:

the video isn’t faking anything: the “actors” who stood in for Mick, Keith, and Ronnie are listed in the credits.

This is the opposite of the logic behind deepfakes as used to deceive the public in social media.

They'll be eggs that break open and hatch dinosaurs that scurry out of shot and devour the cameraman.
How did this end up being a long-winded disquisition on the utter bore that is AI?

Because of the video using AI to deepfake Mick Jagger's face over Luca Arshad's face. Bizarrely on topic since the video thread was blended with track talk.

The facts I'm referring to include the aspect of no information, which for some people seems to be a welcoming aspect of conspiring with dramatic opinion based in absolute fantasyland that, obviously, has zero relevance: the skeleton of the wrong opinion.
