First, the CD design itself. The label side is almost completely covered with yellow paint, leaving only narrow red inner and outer rims. The playback side is colored red. Fine. So naturally, people will focus on the playback side.

Second, the red dye does absolutely nothing. At most, it might slightly alter light scattering or absorption characteristics. We shall not discuss possible audio benefits . The manufacturers did not even come up with the usual pseudo-technical marketing nonsense they used for SHM-CDs, UHQCDs, or that infamous turquoise-blue label coating, which supposedly absorbed “unwanted pickup light” or “stray reflections” inside the player. That was already absurd enough during the SHM-Platinum CD campaign, with all the predictable “improved transparency,” "increased smoothness of the reflective layer," and “improved shapes of the pits” audiophile snake oil attached to it.

So what remains here is simply a curious red object — pure attention bait dressed up as a premium collectible.

They already used a similar coloring gimmick for the three Decca/London CD singles box sets released in 2004–2005. But at least those had some aesthetic justification. The discs visually emulated the original carbon-black vinyl singles, so there was a coherent archival or nostalgic concept behind them.

This time, however, I have no idea what the marketing department was thinking with a bright red CD. What exactly is the point? Who is the target audience? Audiophiles? Collectors? Casual buyers impressed by colored plastic? It feels like a product created by a committee desperately searching for another “limited edition,” a fresh layer of collector’s mythology or whatever.
