I’m still wondering about the El Mocambo “reveal” today. Were those shows filmed?

It is ironic to see this "uproar" and talk of petitions. It seems like the exact same people who usually pride themselves on keeping secret information to themselves—whether it’s rehearsal locations, unannounced club shows, or "inner circle" tips—are the ones now complaining because, for once, they weren't the only ones who could benefit from the insides?

When these same people are part of the "lucky few" getting into a tiny club show or a private rehearsal, I don’t see them starting petitions to get more tickets for the rest of the fans or demanding more entries for the general public. They are usually quite happy with the exclusivity when it benefits them.

Stop whining, accept the reality of a limited release, and just be happy that the Stones are actually still releasing new music in 2026. Deal with it. They really don't owe us anything.

Smartest thing said in pages. Everyone should stop whining about the scarcity of this vinyl and save their petitions and tears for when the album drops and there are too many vinyl variants.

With fans like these…

Does the Rolling Stones care about what their fans are saying?

Yes. For sure. They read what is posted on IORR. When there was a petition to play "Sway" in 2005, they had never played that great song from "Sticky Fingers"live. During the Toronto 2005 rehearsals, there was a petition to play "Sway":

The Rolling Stones 2005 Tour wish list
Songs the fans want to hear live

The page name was "sway.htm"...

They did rehearse it, I was in Toronly that summer of 2005, and listened to the rehearsals. On the final date of the rehearsals, they did "Sway four - 4 - times. It sounded great every time.

Saturday Aug. 13
Great final rehearsals night in Toronto. They did the following songs among others:

Midnight Rambler
Get Off Of My Cloud
Mr. Pitiful
Neighbours (two times)
Sway (four times)
Heartbreaker
Shattered (two times)
Going To A Go Go
Rough Justice

And in Columbus Ohio on Saturday, September 24, 2005, Sway was performed live:

Sep. 25: Sway in Columbus last night
The Stones finally made the IORR wish list come through last night as they made the debut of "Sway". The show opener was "Brown Sugar", and they also did "Mr. Pitiful" for the first time on this tour, not counting the Toronto club show. See the IORR Columbus reviews for details.

So a petition, a request, or an open letter, will of course be read by the band.

so in that case what can I do to support this open letter about the at least digital release of the new song?

Totally agree, 100%. This message is worth closing this long thread with. Especially since "everybody" has heard the song by now or even owns a digital copy.

I couldn't agree LESS.

It's a thread about their new single, and their upcoming album.

The (limited) release of the single was a bit of a shambles, and we're still speculating about the forthcoming album. It's what we do here. <grin>

Why on earth should the thread be closed?

I tried to count everything, but I'm missing some information, such as the number of shops in each country.

Which countries specifically? It can be checked via VPN, but connecting to and checking ca. 200 countries would be an extensive task.

That would be Pete Townshend, whilst inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

The Stones aren't the only major artist with a new studio album in July 2026 - Madonna will also release her new studio album 'Confessions II' on 03-Jul-2026 - [SuperDeluxeEdition.com] .

This amused me......I was looking at my copy of the Hackney Gazette from August 2023 -

and of course on page 3 is the famous advert for the 'specialists in glass repair' -

If you then turn over to the next page you read about a poor women who has a problem in her flat....

The information in bold is fairly reliable; it's mostly all documented in this thread.

I tried to count everything, but I'm missing some information, such as the number of shops in each country.

I estimated the total number of singles based on the available data and my own assumptions based on that data.

For example, Germany is relatively well-documented. There are 11 locations with shops, and the number of singles per shop is fairly reliable (except for Tübingen and Hanover). So, I estimated the "reliable 98 singles" for Germany as a whole to be between 110-120.

Perhaps some more usable data will be helpful to make the table more accurate.
Sorry for mistakes.

I like that you are keeping track of this, it might be useful data down the line. But sorry to be picky, "UK including Scotland..." huh, is this just ignorance? The UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland. Why call it out? What is the apology for?

I agree with this view. I posted an opinion yesterday but it seems to have disappeared, or somehow I didn't post it properly. I don't need anybody to speak on my behalf. Petitions claiming to be on behalf of all fans is not true. We should all be allowed to express our opinions without fearing the great filter. That said, I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect a simultaneous digital release. The cockroaches campaign injected a bit of excitement for two weeks. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

I'm more concerned about that "brickwalled sound" (mentioned in separate thread), just hoping that album, when it comes out, won't be unbearable to listen to

It's only because the hype of the "Cockroaches" title was teased that half implied some tyoe of secret appearance or revelation. Hopefully there is still another shoe to drop in all of this or this all fizzles out. The song is decent but not a life changing single.

With the new studio album in July, I mainly meant well-known artists. This could also have an impact on chart positions.

Thanks for this summary, Nankstone.
You mention Eragny and Cergy for France; actually, it's the same place. The records were sold in Eragny, which is near Cergy, the better-known town.
Here's what was sold in France.

Paris – 6 copies
Eragny – 3 copies
Brest – 1 copie
Nice – 1 copie
Besançon – 2 copies
Saint-Etienne – At least 2 copies
Clermont Ferrand – 3 copies
Quimper – 2 copies
Vannes – 2 copies
Angoulême – 2 copies
Agen – 3 copies
Cholet – 1 copie
Coutances – 2 copies
Lyon – 2 copies
Rennes – 2 copies
Lyon – 2nd retailer – 2 copies
Charleville Mézières – 2 copies
Toulouse – 2 copies
Biarritz – 2 copies
Montpellier – 2 copies

A few rare sellers didn't sell all the copies they received. They quickly realized the single's rarity and saw the resale prices on auction sites.
That said, I'm stating this as a fact and making no judgment whatsoever.

The marketing strategy used is new for longtime fans; it might be slightly frustrating, but it shouldn't distract from what's essential: the music. And today everyone can listen to this track thanks to shares on IORR in particular. The rest is trivial and just details; the die is cast.

No need for that. Ronnie took the hint when he got sick. Keith does not smoke much. Mick will always be a naughty boy, even at age in the eighties.

I do my own part by never posting a picture of any of them smoking, not that they do much of it now, but they did in the past, and Keith used to have a pack of Marlboro lined up on the small table in front of Charlie, I do not approve of everything they do, even if some think so. Cancer and other smoking related issues do take lives, many lives, unfortunately.

All French record stores were identified by the "players" with varying degrees of speed.

Where was actually the record store of the 15th coordinate 48.1135, 1.6785 ? It pointed somehow in the middle of nowhere (near 28200 Châteaudun and Orléans).

Actually, the given coordinates weren't entirely correct; the minus sign was missing.

They transmitted: 48.1135, 1.6785

Whereas it was actually 48.1135, -1.6785

It’s a limited edition release. 1000 copies. Oddly distributed.

Much like the 1000 Carnaby Red issues of Sticky Fingers, Some Girls, Exile, GHS, It’s Only Rock n Roll and Tattoo You. - Only for this release, again of just 1000, you either had to line up at ONE shop in the world in Carnaby St London to snag 1 of 500 or hope to grab 1 of 500 online at midnight on day of release. Or then pay stupid prices on eBay.

Which was harder/fairer? Having limited numbers basically all round the world? Or limited numbers at one shop and limited numbers online?

Was there a petition back then? I had to pay $100s over the odds to get all the Red versions. No petition back then.

Doesn’t worry me.
