To be clear I never expected to have the record. I did expect to be able to buy a download though. I collect only what is reasonable and without trouble attached.
Yesterday, I visited four record shops in Porto. Three owners had no idea about the release. One gave me a wink and said he knew it was coming, but they had not secured a copy (apparently, they have no direct contact with UMG). It seems the single was not supplied to Portugal. At least Louie Louie (two independent stores in Porto and Lisbon) and Tubitek (multiple stores across the country) were definitely not aware of it.

So, apart from another round of back pain after two hours of wandering up and down the hills of downtown, I got nothing.

Maybe you can check for it during the Feira Nacional de Vinil de Benfica, which will be held on May 8–10 at Ringue Antonio Livramento, Junta de Freguesia de Benfica, Avenida Gomes Pereira 17, 1549-019 Lisboa. But the price there... Well it could possible be lower compared to eBay crooks.

I like the guitar sound, I wish they would bury Mick's voice more and double it/add way more rough harmonies.

Why was there no digital download available? Ridiculous! Could have charged 10.07 but at least it would have been available to everyone. Congratulations to those that purchased a physical copy. Matt Lee warned us …

3 in NYC at Rough Trade. Not sure if any other shops in NYC received copies, but not that I've seen reported. Rough Trade was the only shop in NYC on the list.

Rough and Twisted

The sound recorded by my iPhone but has a stereo quality.

Thank you! The best phone recorded version (in stereo) for now!

Thanks.

Here you can really hear Andrew Watt's production, powerful and upfront, with Steve Jordan's driving drums pushing forward, and the ending is identical to that of Sweet Sounds of Heaven.

A great track to open the new album, it picks up right where Hackney Diamonds with Rolling Stone Blues left off, but with the full band now—an excellent choice.

I'm not sure I like Andrews production/mixing that much, too upfront and distorted to my liking, but I fully respect he has been able to squeeze material out of the Stones.

Oh dear, I better stop complaining or the self entitled Reverend Red Lights over at RocksOff will be whining about IORR grinning smiley He does seem in the know and I like his postings though.

The vinyl Cockroaches thing is just a funny extra, I am surprised some people take it so seriously and even went all out trying to get one. I don't think anyone should feel entitled to have one.
There are now a number of places where you can listen to the song online, and that's good enough. It's a nice, dirty bluesy song, which is nice. Even nicer that apparantly it will be on the album too. Maybe this album will be more rough and unpolished, which I would applaud very much.

You don’t think anyone should feel entitled to have one of those vinyls? For whom was this huge marketing campaign then if not for the fans?

Maybe we have different definitions of the word "entitled". The whole thing was meant as a joke, to draw some attention. Sooner or later, the song will be published officially. Just sit back and wait. And meanwhile listen to the versions on internet.
It's rather silly to think we "deserve" a copy of just a little gimmick to draw attention. Really, the fans can just be happy that there's something out there that soon will be published officially. No need to whine about it.

Shifting gears a bit, I don’t think this track was completely finished at the tjme of HD’s release. At the very least, Mick wrote the lines about tyranny and conspiracy after you-know-who was reelected.

Does anyone else think it’s really brickwalled? It reminds me of blue and lonesome and a bigger bang.

If it was meant as a joke than it should have been communicated in a different way. Obviously most here didn’t understand this as a joke and some even traveled long distances to the record stores only to see it now being sold by scalpers.

Total number of 1,000 numbered copies worldwide, as it seems. Just my best estimate.

Most shops had 1 to 5 copies only for sale, and very few record shops had it for sale at all.

It’s a modern mix like Hackney Diamonds. It is quite loud and compressed. I like it. Sounds spectacular

It means processing the mix/master with a (brickwall) limiter which reduces dynamics by compressing the louder parts of the signal (the transients), resulting in an overall higher average level.

The production is very different, bluesy instead of "hard rock" but I'm surprised no one's mentioned the similarities with "Eazy Sleazy" [www.youtube.com] ;-)

I was gonna say his production seems suitable for the Foo Fighters. But lets not diminish that he manages to get finished songs out of the Stones.

Denver had 2 copies. Got there 55 mins before opening and was 2nd in line. The store took a picture of me and the other lucky fan so perhaps that was their way of confirming they received and sold 2 copies, not keeping any for themselves. For what it’s worth, the mom of one of the manager’s (the same manager who, the day before, told me she knew nothing when I popped in to inquire) was behind me in line (unlucky number 3) so assume if they had held a couple copies back she wouldn’t have had to wait with the rest of us.

Of course it will be brickwalled.

It's a recording from 2025-26, produced in 2026 by a producer who's 35-36 years old. I don't understand how people in 2026 expect albums to sound like they did in 1972, more than half a century ago.

The Blu-ray mix will be quieter and more detailed, the vinyl mix a bit more opaque and calm, but the CD, digital, and streaming versions will be as brick-walled as 100% of music today.
