I feel the Cockroaches moniker was used because of Keith’s uninvolvement. Does he have a writing credit?

You're joking, right?

Apologies…..

This was a major miscalculation by The Rolling Stones and it alienated a lot of fans.

What number did everyone get who got The Cockroaches. I'm wondering how many of these 12" singles were released.

The highest number I saw on eBay is 936. Something like 37 stores on the list, and most reports indicate 4-6 copies per store, with a few having more and a few having less, that doesn't add up to 936...

The Rocks Off link is now back to 28 seconds. I listened to the full song twice, a few hours apart. Second time, toward the end of the song, the hairs rose on the back of my neck. That's the stamp of the Stones. There's a kind of tide that rises and sweeps you away. Brillint, and we'll miss it when it's gone.

It sounds great! Bluesy and heavy with a cool no-click-track swagger on the edge of collapsing at any time they demonstrate their love for live rootsy music. I like it. Not near their best songs but more fun than everything on previous album Hackney Diamonds.

Update about the rocksoff link. The complete mp3 has now been replaced with the 28s snippet again, maybe the copyright police were closing in or they decided not to take any risks. It could lead to bad standing or something...

I find the song quite OK, with an early 1970s feel, a bit like Status Quo gone wild once nobody was listening ... grinning smiley

I guess the next trick will be something like this: Now that all of us old die-hards are convinced that the new album will be rough and raw Stones (finally, after all those years, etc), we'll get a totally streamlined modern-sounding album instead that will make HD sound like punk (nyah nyah ...).

More seriously, I'd rather prefer a less-overproduced album - which doesn't mean back to 1970. "Modern-sounding" might as well mean only what it takes, without unnecessary bells and whistles.

I am one of those who can't really understand the negativity this has generated.

The Rolling Stones have released a promotional white-label, something countless artists have done. The disappointment appears to have been generated because The Stones didn't do what some fans were (unrealistically, and totally fancifully, in my opinion) hoping they would do.

Please, do not blame the band, or the organisation, just because they didn't do what you thought they should do.

They've released a song on a limited physical format. It really does not need to be any more complex, or aggravating, or annoying, than that.

Guys, this is just one track from the album. There's no way an electric blues song is going to be the single on a high-profile album. It's more like the NME flexi disc that came out before Exile. The problem is that everyone got carried away with the hype, thinking they'd announce the album today: tracklist, songwriters, who's playing, tour dates, ticket sales, etc. Hype 100%.

Too much hype, and the Stones aren't in any rush. I understand this kind of campaign is geared more towards a younger audience, and the Stones' fans are still using rotary phones by comparison.

The first single with the video will be released in May—a MUCH more commercial and pop-oriented track—along with the rest of the album information.

Georgelicks do you know for certain if this track will be on the new album?
I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't.

Well, I have sympathy and understand the frustration felt by those who were led on a wild goose chase, spending hours travelling and waiting only to find there was only one copy available at the store. And no official stream available later...

Agree, I am willing to bet there's not a single Stones fan that will abandon them over this. Everyone will have a physical copy of the song once the ablum is out. It obviously generated tons of intererest on this site alone - quite clever if you as me.

The Telegraph review says it will be the opening track. See previous pages for a "free" link.

It's the opening track of the new album, but not the first single; it's just a preview. The first single is a much more commercial song, with a very catchy pop-rock sound.

It's the complete opposite of what we hear today, I'm told.

Charlie's on the album but not on this track, it's Steve Jordan all the way, Charlie didn't play like that.

Absolutely disappointed with this marketing campaign. I’ve been a Rolling Stones fan for 40 years and I still can’t listen to the single. A complete disaster."

I always thought limiting something when there is much higher demand is stupid. The Stones haven’t earned much money from those limited vinyl records and now they are on the secondary market for astronomical prices.

It’s all the hype they created and all the hope that this hype created which is now vanished. The whole week felt like the week before Christmas and now there are no presents.

Even though I bought one on eBay today for $700 I’m still pissed off that I couldn’t get one today. My store got four copies but their website says they open at 10 instead they opened at eight. I’ve bought everything they’ve put out since 1973 and spent thousands on over 50 shows and I’m a little pissed off that I couldn’t get it today. Worst marketing ever. And not only that I never got anything back on What’s App. Rolling Stones, I know you don’t care but I am really disappointed in you. I had been excited all week long.
