This is what I know -this guitar is from the personal collection of Alan Rogan, and comes with a letter of Rogan stating Keith gifted the guitar to him in 1981. There's no reason to doubt any of this.
The statement of Rogan is that the guitar 'can be seen in various film footage of the band', without any further details. I do not think this is the guitar used by Keith from 1969 to late 1971:
1. Ted Newman Jones stated he took the pickups from the guitar in 1971 to be used on a guitar he would build for Keith. They ended up in Micawber and the first TNJ 5-string. The guitar ended up with Steve Marriott, who used it with Humble Pie and is now in the hands of a known collector.
2. Keith's Custom was known to be a '57, this is a '58.
3. The Rogan guitar is very mint, whereas a guitar that Keith toured with in 69-71 is expected to have dings and scratches. The way they toured back then was very amateurish, and there are many pictures of the guitar leaning against brick walls, lying on floors and on top of amps, and basically being thrown together.
4. The hardware is really shiny gold, whereas on most pictures with Keith the hardware looks worn, with the gold worn out to show the nickel.
5. The neck inlays do not match up. As far as I can tell, all the inlays of the Rogan guitar look different to the guitar Keith used in 69-71.
5. There are promotional pictures from Some Girls where Keith is holding a mint Custom, with shiny hardware. I believe that to be the same guitar that Keith gifted to Rogan in 1981.
6. I have various pictures and statements from the collection of Alan Rogan through Jim Barber. Rogan was a custodian to Keith's collection since the mid-1970's. All guitars where from after 1972, there were no guitars from before the Nellcote robbery except for Micawber.
