I find it hard to believe that anyone would give a tinker's cuss about the Hall of Fame.

(not meaning to disrespect your post, BBJ, just wondering why entry into this odd 'hall' would mean anything to anyone)

And again! Why are they lumping two acts together? Yes, I know Joy Division and New Order are intrinsically related, but Ian Curtis' absence makes for a different band. Although I like both of these groups a little, neither would get my pick. Iron Maiden and Oasis are the only two for me; although I must say, those I consider genuinely 'worthy' of this nonsense, were all nominated and entered in decades ago.

I would not vote for most of these.

I agree most don't care about the HOF and can understand why.

The only ones I think that absolutely deserve it are Iron Maiden and Oasis. Everyone else is a bit embarrassing.

Convinced the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a social experiment aimed at increasing blood pressure of boomers.

They're doing a bad job then because with each passing year less and less people care or respond to it.

As an institution its failed in nominating quality people leading to generating very little interest translating to dramatically poor viewership year after year. Its essentially the Grammys at this point, but at least people generally know what time of year the Grammys are on.

induct steppenwolf!

yes i understand they don't have enough hits or influence but still i insist particularly in light of who they seem to think qualify for potential inclusion

There are a lot of people that, based on Mariah Carey being nominated, should go in. Boston, Meat Loaf, Steppenwolf, Styx, Procol Harum, Mott The Hoople, Love, the list genuinely goes on and on. Now I don't really think any of those bands (despite liking most of them) actually belong in a true Hall Of Fame. That list is shorter these days, though I do think includes Harry Nilsson, Iron Maiden, Oasis, The Misfits, King Crimson, The New York Dolls.

But yeah, at this point anyone is fair game and they hilariously don't limit it to people that actually deserve it, nor just ANYONE in the general rock space like a Steppenwolf that shouldn't but hey, who cares at this point. They widen it to just be general music, as an attempt to pull in different demographics and viewership and attendance to the broadcast and the Hall itself. Pretty much everyone is aware its the Pop Music Hall Of Fame now instead of rock and roll, they just refuse to change the name. Ironically, and completely genuinely, I believe Steppenwolf has a better chance of winning a Grammy than they do nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Major omissions, if I am not wrong, I may be, seem to comprise
Vanilla Fudge
Joy Division / New Order
Nick Cave
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Bauhaus
Sonic Youth
Pixies
Smashing Pumpkins

More major omissions IMHO especially when Pink, Shakira and Wu Tang Clan are considered worthy

Steel Pulse
Jethro Tull
Little Feat
Quicksilver Messenger Service/John Cippolina
Toots and The Maytals
Neville Brothers
Government Mule/Warren Haynes
LCD Soundsystem
Midnight Oil
Commander Cody and His Lost Airmen

The argument of who should be in is as old as the Hall itself. I think it was made with good intentions, congratulate/celebrate the originators of this amazing art form but then something went horribly wrong.

It is beyond embarrassment, Sex Pistols got it right over 20 years ago, F*ck this. Steve Miller was right. Everybody who complains about the joke of inductees is right.

I'm sure Jan Weiner and his boomer buddy investors did well and made lots of money for themselves. It was called the "ME" generation for a reason.

Not a single music fan I know cares at all about the HOF, it's gone beyond a joke to becoming completely irrelevant and invisible. Once the rest of the boomers die off it will be an empty shell of a building sand/or turned into luxury condos.

On September 2, 1995 I drove from DC to Cleveland to see the 7hour show for the opening of the Hall of Fame. It was fantastic. I visited the museum several times. I enjoy the place very much. I don't worry about who is selected and when as eventually all the musicians who have the credentials will be inducted because at one point they are going to run out of options. Just be patient.

Fair, but its unfortunate many of the artists aren't alive to see the honor. Sure, its just a trophy, but not everyone got to be adored in their own time like Mick Jagger or Paul McCartney. Mick Ralphs never got to see Bad Company get in, Chris Cornell with Soundgarden, Joe Cocker and Lou Reed never got to see their solo efforts honored. And its just plain rude because with Lou Reed they deliberately waited till the year after he died. He only got in because of that and its sick, because its not coincidence. The Dave Clark 5 got enough votes one year but they really wanted to induct a rap group so they did just that. And then Mike Smith died before they were inducted the next year. Its happened countless times and its incredibly inconsiderate and its purposeful and its the anthesis of the creation of that Hall. Chris Squire should have gotten to see Yes get inducted. Its amazing Ozzy Osbourne actually got to see himself get in.

I voted for the following five acts even though it was possible to vote for up to eight Nominees:

- INXS
- Jeff Buckley
- Lauryn Hill
- Oasis
- The Black Crowes

It's a shame that acts like Gram Parons, Emmylou Harris and Lowell George / Little Feat are not in RRHoF.

Not necessarily.

Phish won the Fan Vote last year. Not only did they not get in, they weren't even on this year's ballot.

Again, the fan vote means absolutely nothing lol. And I'd say its dumb they even list it, but clearly to people it makes them feel like they have a voice when they absolutely do not.

That The J. Geils Band isn’t in the R‘N’Roll HOF, shows it’s now a popularity contest and the music means nothing. Peter Wolf is right beside Mick Jagger as greatest frontman ever.

It is hard to believe that New Edition is on top... They have got a bigger fan base than Iron Maiden or The Black Crowes or even Phil Collins? Oasis, anyone?

I am surprised that Pink is this popular. I thought she was a few-hit-wonder who has not got much to her name. Why should I think she is a singer with a great legacy?

I just do not get it.

I've never heard of 'New Edition', admittedly.

Pink had a few sizeable hits way back when; some pretty good. IMO, she certainly doesn't belong on this list, though! Oasis do deserve to be inducted.

I don't think its that New Edition or Pink have bigger fan bases than Iron Maiden or Phil Collins. I think its that Iron Maiden and Phil Collin's fanbases are less online or see the futility of needing to do this. I do think for "younger" bands they just want to get involved in online campaigns more regularly.

You cannot be right about social media. It is hard to believe that New Edition has a fanbase that uses social media that much. And I do not believe that their fan base is as competitive as, let's say, Pink's fanbase, trying to vote their band into the Hall. I just do not get it. I cannot remember, for the life of me, reading one article in a music mag on their contribution to music. Not saying they are not good. But, hey, how about a million other bands that left a pretty sizeable legacy behind?! Ten Years After, ELP or Jethro Tull, to name three? Or JB Lenoir? John Mayall? Procol Harum?

Pink... Oh, boy! I am turning purple...

This fan vote makes me think of another great fan vote by a band we all love. New Edition could not top a vote like this. No way!

As I said in a post before, I know that some musicians do voice their opinion on the ridiculousness of the Hall. But we are taking about less than a dozen musicians. All the others celebrate this complete nonsense. They will sit there clapping when Pink gets inducted one day. Are they all this ignorant to the fact that there are soooo many bands and artists that should have been inducted ages ago?
