I understand the sex appeal - the singer not the song. The music? They sound like a hundred other bands. Can't tell the difference. Sex sells though. It always has.

Thanks - just gave them a quick snippets listen. Fun! Remind me a bit of another newer band I’m liking - Amyl and the Sniffers, also good and punky, and on the bill on the same day as Wet Leg at the Governor’s Ball in NY in June. Can’t wait!

Bit of a dinosaur viewpoint - one can be attractive and the lead singer of a popular, award winning band at the same time. Reducing it to sex appeal is incredibly disrespectful to women in general

Well, I glanced through some live videos on Youtube. Noticed that she often performs in, more or less, her underwear. Certainly you can call me disrespectful to women for pointing out that.
You can also call me a dinosaur for thinking that women can be attractive on stage keeping their clothes on. I have no problem with that.
She can perform nude if she wants to. I don't mind that. But I would point out that sex is a factor here.

In a way that you wouldn’t point it out if it was a man. Hey ho let’s move on….

Even if you didn’t call Stoneage a sexist, you‘re subliminally suggesting he is which is not fair to him.
This has nothing do to with gender. Even male acts sell much better if they are hot. Young Mick Jagger has been sexy as f… (still is for his age). I bet the Stones wouldn’t have been as successful if Mick hadn’t been that hot. It’s just the way human nature is. And not just in music business, attractive people have it easier in all areas of life, male or female alike.
While I do like the music of Wet Leg a lot, I do for example find the music of Harry Styles quite mediocre and do not think he would be almost remotely as successful if he wasn’t that good looking.
It‘s just the way to world works, not a ‚dinosaur viewpoint‘ at all. Sex sells, always has and always will
i agree, Dua Lipa and Sabrina Carpenter are a whole nother level of „sex sells“ than Wet Leg. Wet Leg didn’t start out that way, but the recent live shows show quite a lot of skin. This is neither good or bad but certainly a factor that grabs people’s attention, sometimes before they listen to any music.Quote

Generally I agree with the points you made here, except that it feels to me like Wet Legs don’t sell sex in the same sense or manner as a number of modern female pop singers do, e.g. Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter to name a few. As compared to these pop queens, the way Rhian presents sexuality is weird and freaky.
Sex sells. See Taylor Swift presenting herself with The Life Of A Showgirl, her latest album and its promotion.
