Which version of this song by Mick do you like best? The more ballady version or the rock version?

Where can the "rock version" be found?

The "rock version" is on the 12" single, and on the music-video.

The "rock" version is released as a 7" and 12" at the time. Also available on the bootleg "Mick Jagger - The Versions".

I used to prefer the "rock" version above the album version, but listening to it now I have to say it sounds too slick and eighties to me. Even more than the album version does. But if I have to choose, I go for the album version.

By the way, Hard Woman has the worst video ever! (I guess it was hip at the time??)

I got "Hard Woman" on a video-tape from 1989, and I remember the woman introducing all the songs, said that this was one of the most expensive videoes EVER made. But that was in 89. And its pretty bad, I think so too.

I agree. Really bad video! Terrible! But I do like the song, especially the more rocking version!

Am I the only one who sees simularities in fast talking (outtake) and hard woman?
I think he used some ideas from fast talking in hard women.
Did you notice this too?
Mack Jigger or anyone else?

Although the "Jaggerisms" in the slow version almost reach astronomical levels, I think the slow version blows the other one away. I still have to almost laugh at the way Jagger just mangles those consonants in that vocal LOL...He really lays it down. But Jagger is jst magic, y know? When he delivers that line "How can I say goodbye to my baby?" you would have to have a heart of stone to not feel something for someone along the way.
In the faster version they overuse that line. Plus there is that awful faux-reggae bassline that drives ma crazy. It is in the chorus; that stutter on the bass that is so 80's , so lousy, so cheap. wasn't it the Hooters that redid this version with him? Jagger at the time was always looking for the hip, tight band to back him up. Hall and Oates (love em or hate em) did have one tough band they put together.Still shoulda been the Stones at Live Aid though.

Hm. I've never heard the 'rock' version until now, but even with the over-production, I think it makes the song finally at least listenable for me. I loathe the album version, he's way too over the top on it.

I think the album version is nice. Its a childish love-song, but ChelseaDrugastore discribed it well. You get a sympathy for Mick with the phrases like "She was unfaithfull, she treated me cruely, where is the mercy, where is the love", and "How can I say goodbye to my baby."
Its out of time, etc, blah-blah-blah, but I secretely like it.

Definitely Eighties production values.
