They´ve never said they´re the greatest rock´n roll band in the world, only the fans do.

Well this should have been written in italics,´cause it´s not my words, but words previously said at this site.

Great, great stuff. The whole atmosphere, attitude... Those were the days, oh boy... Only breathing sex and drugs and rock and roll... Keef is the definition of coolness (bloody hell - the intro of "Brown Sugar" is a sledgehammer!) and Mick's the definition of sleazy, spoiled over the top rock star...

But 5th wedding anniversary.. and naturally the dude looks like couldn't care less and watches football... grinning smiley

It was an important match, something like a final, which they all watched backstage in Leicester

Great video even in poor quality. A nice look into the way things used to be on tour. Would have fit nicely in the Black and Blue box set.

"It is a stupid question and I'm fed up to be asked that" The question was "why do you keep doing concerts/music?" Mick fires back the answer to the journalist and Jagger looks pissed off(American English).
Good for you Mick.

I have always believed that they were watching the Champions Cup final between Bayern Munich and Saint-Étienne. So the backstage footage is from Glasgow not Leicester winking smiley

It was Scotland v England at Hampden Park, Glasgow. Scotland won 2-1 grinning smiley. The winning goal was rather, ummm notable.

Incidentally, that European Cup Final was played at the same stadium just 3 days earlier. There's a photo somewhere with Mick and 2 of the Bayern players at Glasgow Airport.

My friend was at the Glasgow Apollo gig. 12 May 1976, which was a Wednesday night.

He always said it was the same night of the 1976 European Cup Final between Bayern Munich and Saint-Etienne at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Bayern won 1-0.

They used to (in the good old days) play the Final on a Wednesday night.

He remembers Mick telling the crowd the final score and the crowd all booing, and Mick being a bit taken aback - they must have wanted Saint-Etienne to win

Yes, the good old days, was it was simply the 'European Cup' and a competition solely open to those teams who had won the domestic top-flight league the preceding season. Now, it's the ludicrous 'Champions League', where finishing fourth in your respective domestic league is considered a success. Really??

For years in the NFL there can be a "division winner" with a regular season losing record hosting a wild card playoff game while a or teams miss out with a better record.

It's beyond absurd.

Wow didn't know that. It's hard to see, but yeah, he's there to the left (if you're looking toward the stage) with his Strat. You can hear his generic blues licks indeed. grinning smiley

No, in the documentary, even though the live footage was filmed in Leicester, the backstage footage actually comes from Glasgow on May 12. They are indeed watching the Saint-Étienne–Bayern final

Just re-watched it - I stand corrected - I can spot a Bavarian player (white shirt, red trousers) on their telly (the two teams in Scotland vs. England wore other colour combinations). Shortly afterwards (at 15.38) MJ talks to RW about the match.
What confused me was what RW said at 16.55.

Found this on YouTube. Pardon me if someone here on IORR already found it.

This is a gritty documentary of the 1976 European tour with backstage interviews with musicians, roadies, dressers, and all and sundry. I thought it was fascinating.

I live that Earls Court show they just put out. It has reminded me why I used to consider Keith Richards a fantastic guitar player.

I like the raw energy of Earl’s Court.
Songs like honky-tonk women and it’s only rock ‘n’ roll that don’t quite catch fire on LA Friday’75 swing like hell.
I had always accepted the received wisdom that 76 was a step down from 75. This recent deluxe black and has been a major eye-opener. Seems it may have been the other way round?
Too young to go back in the day. From newspaper accounts at the time the Earl’s Court was probably the worst sounding in the room. Was gutted in 78 that they didn’t bring it home to the UK.

Well, yeah, but, some shows were actually quite good. Paris turned out to be much better that I thought now we have the video in excellent sound quality, Earl's Court is actually quite good (although I think the sound of the recording is not that enjoyable), Lyon, Frankfurt, The Hague: really good shows.

It might be their least exiting tour, but the fact that we never had a real good recording didn't help either in our appreciation.
