Best Show Memories
Date: December 19, 2025 01:27

I will try to start a positive thread.

So, what are your best tour memories?

I'll start with the 1981 show in Largo where I took my mother to the show. She got to meet the band and they gave her a book and pass. She was upset they didn't play 19th Nervous Breakdown.

Next, I'll go to Hampton where I can hear myself yelling on the bootleg.

Please share your BEST memories from their tours.

Thanx for starting this thread.
I startet 1982 in Rotterdam , finished 2022 in Berlin. Almost 70 shows and a lot of memories. One great moment: "Fool to Cry" in Berlin. I was waiting years for that and then it happened...
More great moments during the shows they playded for "At the Max" in Europe. A few fans I met are in the film - and me as a silhouette.

Seeing them in 2013 in Philly and getting to see Mick Taylor with them. I'm a younger fan and I truly never thought I'd get to see that happen. Midnight Rambler by that point was expected, but Can't You Hear Me Knockin' was not. Getting both was just a joy. He's the reason I play guitar so its one of my favorite concert memories of all time.

DC (Maryland) 2019. Mercy, Mercy (only time played since Hyde Park 1969, as I’m sure you all know).

Atlanta 2024- Pit (Keith’s side). I was near the wing and thought it’d be funny to flash Mick (I’m a man in my late 40s). Apparently he did too. He looked at me, smiled and didn’t miss a beat singing.

Only seen them 4x, so I feel lucky to have had these experiences.

First show Paris, June 13th, 1982.

Last show Seattle, may 15th, 2024.

À Total of 88 concerts, including 2 Olympia in Paris, 3 Madison Square Garden, 1 Trabendo, 2 Hyde Park, 1 Cuba, 7 Wembley stadiums including the 2 final shows with Bill Wyman (you can see me twice in movie Rolling Stones At the Max), 2 Buenos Aires...among others. A lot of memories.

Steel Wheels Tour in Philly 1989. My first Stones concert, blew my mind! The excitement among the crowd was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. When the Stones took stage, the place blew up, and never stopped til the very end. Seen them many times since, all the way to my last show at Santa Clara last year. But that first show changed my life, to this day I'll never forget it.

Oh, and also was lucky enough to be at the Zilker Park Austin 2006 show (from The Biggest Bang DVD) on one of my first dates with my future wife! grinning smiley

Aside from seeing 41 shows in 10 countries and meeting so many fine folks? One of the best memories is Newark, December 2012. When I was 5 years old, the album 12 X 5 came into the house. First song, first side… Around and Around… made me so happy. Those first notes will still lift me out of the crappiest mood. When they played it, I damn near wept. Thanks lads.

Ridgedale has to be it for me. Bought two tickets (one in seats and one in pit) thinking I would go but not 100% sure. As it got closer I realized I wasn't going to be able to sell them and had my flight booked on Delta. With the second ticket I could either eat it or take some one. I offered it to my friend Mike who was a former basketball player almost 7 feet tall. Booked his flight to meet in Atlanta and then fly together to Fayetteville Arkansas. As luck would have it that was the weekend of the Crowdstrike meltdown and travel bordered on impossible. We both arrived late in Atlanta and missed connections. Ended up sleeping in a pool room on a cot at a hotel that was overbooked and arrived in Springfield Missouri late the night before. I posted on here if anyone needed a ride to and from the show and Peter from Australia contacted me. The three of us drove over, got there early and enjoyed the day. We were parked int he preferred lot so at the bottom of the hill. We actually debated whether this would be their final show. Samantha Fish came out and did a kick ass set. Finally what we were waiting for. While we were all sitting separately and both Mike and I were running recording gear we all felt the collective vibe of history. It was a great show, well worth the effort to get there. Getting home was a separate story. It took almost four hours to get back to Branson and the next day flying was just as bad. Mike barely made a connection to make it home in time for work and I slept at Hartsfield Airport finally getting on a 9AM flight the next time. The thing is, it was worth it then and worth it now. Maybe not the best show but the memory of what it took to make that show and the experience of being there was it for me.

Judging by setlist and atmosphere:

Best stadium shows: both Basle 1995

Best club show: probably all of them for slightly different reasons but since I have to choose one it's Brixton 95

Crazy to think that all chosen shows took place in July 1995.

I think my #1 memory from a show has to be Licks 2003, Helsinki, when Keith handed me his pick (one he'd just played Sympathy with) as he was coming down the stairs and on his way to the B-stage.

I just reached my hand out for a high-five, but Keith gave me a two-handed shake, closing my hand into a fist with the pick inside. And grinned just he way only he does.

MetLife 2 2024. Keith going absolutely nuts kicking and crouching during JJF. Just completely alive and playing great.

I was just going to write MetLife 2 2024! It was outrageous. I've been to around 30 shows, and each had its fabulous moments, but MetLife 2 2024 was shocking in its wonderfulness!

So so so many...
Best memory has to be the start of it all for me:
November 30, 1981 at the Pontiac Silverdome.
Skipped school that day and I've never been the same since!

My first show. Chicago, ILL 7-8-78. Soldiers Field. Peter Tosh and Journey were opening acts.

We spent the night before at a Travelodge on Michigan Avenue. It was like a party in the streets, never saw anything like it before. Too much to drink and smoke. The next morning we trekked to Soldiers Field. All the pain and sunburn disappeared at approx 3:00 when the Stones jumped out on stage to the loud and punky "Let it Rock" Pure heaven for a teenager.

First - on the rail in 1990 at main rd Manchester aged 16, became a fan for life
Best - circo massimo, Rome 2014, solo trip and just what I needed after coming out of a difficult relationship. Even enjoyed streets of love
Last - 2022 Brussels, closest show to 60th anniversary under the moonlit sky

So happy to have seen them as much as I have

I’ll also chime in on MetLife 2 (2024) that Whole Wide World was electric plus such a good version of Rambler. Hey I finally got Bitch and Keith killing it on JJF

Had a great group of South Americans around me at Hyde Park 2022 and my first time in London. Out of Time so good and CYHMK a nice surprise

An emotional show for me was Charlotte 2021 obviously no Charlie and I was truly convinced during Covid I wouldn’t see them anymore. A powerful night with Keith in top form and full of energy. Got to see the boys in their cars on the way to the stadium which was fun

And of course I’ll also add MetLife 2019, last time I saw Charlie

I’ll still hold out hope I see them just one more time

Stockholm 2017. Solo trip. My first time in the Pit.

They started with Sympathy. I was in the catwalk rail of Pit B.

Just before Keiths solo. He starts walking towards my area, scanning the crowd. I was the only one on the rail not holding a phone. Keith sees me, we lock eyes. I give him the biggest smile, he stops right in front of me, gives me a big smile back, and does the solo for Sympahty right in front of me.

Ill never forget that.

lol mine was 1981 with my mother as well! Only I was too young to drive so it was her who took me.. This was at Candlestick which I noticed MunichHilton mentions as a favorite memory too.. How did you meet the band? Wow!

Chicago #2 2019 being near B stage, and later watching Mick yell out “F*ck yea” during Brown Sugar, he was feeling it smiling smiley

New Orleans Jazz Fest with Irma Thomas joining for Time Is On My Side

And finally, all the traveling, visiting new cities, meeting new people (did I list too many lol)

Arnhem 2017 – before Just Your Fool Ronnie had some problems with his guitar. So Keith and Mick improvised some blues. It was just a minute or so but it was very special but also a missed opportunity to take the improvision further and see what happens.

For me it's the breakfast show 1969. Prodigal son live. Mick with the omega point. The excitement of the crowd.

I suppose nothing beats the first time. New Orleans 1978. Van Halen, The Doobie Brothers and then you know who. Loved the setlist - because Some Girls did not come off my turntable for months. I had every song memorized. 80,000 people were mesmerized by the Rolling Stones.

I had a very similar experience…posted about it before, but am happy to bore everyone with it again.

Cardiff, 2018. I was in Pit B on the catwalk rail. Keith went to start JJF but there was an issue with his guitar and they had to stop while he went and sorted it. He came back, striding down the catwalk, stopped in front of me, looked me right in the eye (OK, allow me my dreams... it sure seemed like it), shrugged, grinned and blasted the opening chord. Shivers...

We’ll never forget those moments.

Seen them 7 times in Vancouver. Second show 89 I was row 2 on the floor right center. I remember the heat from the flames coming up when the show started!
Last show in July 24, the roof at BC Place was open, perhaps the first time ever for a concert?

So nice to hear from you Torontogirl! Hope that you are doing well!
That story is so cool to hear! Very similar stories. Those things stay with you for ever!

Just today i had dinner with my dad (who also is a fan, saw them in 1970) and finished the evening by talking and watching videos from Chicago 2024.

I'm gonna pick 4 memorable shows (out of 14 attended):

1) '81 St. Louis - Only because it was my first and before we got the 'expanded' band (and Stu was there).

2) '04 Columbus - My 40th birthday and they break out Sway for the 1st time ever.

3) '12 Chicago - Seeing Mick Taylor for the first time and playing Can't You Hear Me Knockin'. And I took my 12 year old for his first show!

4) '24 Ridgedale - Already saw them earlier on the tour just kicked back and soaked it all in having a feeling it might at least be my last time seeing them ;-(
