Soulful and operatic lead singer and founder of The Mavericks. Only 60 years old, multiple cancers. Condolences to his family and bandmates.

Man, just saw him in April, seemed in great spirits and indicated he finished chemo and was going to be fine. sad smiley

Saw The Mavericks a few years back and what a great show it was.

Raul Malo was a giant talent and may he rest in peace.


I encourage you to get The Mavericks Christmas album. Every track is a gem and it is among the top 5 of Christmas albums by Rock artists that I owm.

What a great voice full of soul as noted above. Check out the link to the Mavericks Tiny Desk Concert. Sweet. Love their cover of She's About A Mover. Doug Sahm had his band represent themselves as part of the 1960s English music invasion when the song was first released. He's a great artist to look up along with The Mavericks. RIP Mister Malo.

Saw him at the House of Blues in Los Angeles about 2001. He was then the vocalist for the revered group Los Super Seven. Great singer.
