My first show ever (I was 15) was Pearl Jam in 1994 (camped out for 17 hours for $19 pit tickets in downtown Columbia, TN). They covered Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay (only time they ever played it live) with Steve Cropper.

One of the best shows I've ever seen was Neil Young (I'm not a big fan) backed by Booker T & The MGs. Incredible band, and what a guitar player Steve was!

Will play my collection of Stax/Otis/Booker T & The MGs the coming days.

Fantastic player. Always loved his work on Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert in MSG.

Terrible news,

I had the pleasure and luck of seeing him with the MG's backing Eddie Floyd in 2003, what a guitarist! During the last song he handed me his guitar pick from the low stage- it's yellow and says "Pick of The Crop".

His legacy is enormous. What a legend.

I think Jimmy Page and Keith might have copped the hammer-on move you hear on “Communication Breakdown” and “Beast of Burden” from Cropper.

I always thought Eddie Cochran's Nervous Breakdown to be Page's influence on Communication Breakdown? Unless I'm not hearing the hammer-on on the latter track? I know exactly what Keith part you're referring to on Beat of Burden, though.

Could be that too!
