With the recent whatever about the new Stones album, the follow up to HACKNEY DIAMONDS, being done or not done and whatever I thought it would be interesting to look into how long it takes them from beginning the recording sessions to release and any subsequent bleed over into the next album, when applicable.
There's no way to truly know what happened after they finished other than mixing dates in regard to artwork, choosing singles and their artwork and release dates for any releases other than if anything has been noted, which generally seems to be the case but usually part of the overall sessions.
I'm avoiding anything prior to BUTTONS because they recorded so much so often while on tours and albums were released quickly in comparison to later on when they had time.
1967 BETWEEN THE BUTTONS
Recording started August 3-11, 1966 at RCA Studios in Los Angeles while on break from a tour. Have You Seen Your Mother... was one of them.
They returned to England at the end of the month and finished Mother for a single at IBC late August early September and then mixing Mother at RCA right after, with Mother released September 23, the first day of another tour.
In the midst of all of that overdubbing was done for the "live" album in mid-October at IBC.
More recording was done in November at Olympic and Pye. Recording finished in December with mixing supposedly done at RCA that month.
January 3-6 of 1967 more mixing and possibly additional overdubbing was done at Olympic, which implies the album was finished at Olympic (in total, December 13-January 6).
Let's Spend The Night Together was released as a single January 13 and the album was released January 20.
August 3 to January 20.
Just over 6 months - with the live album released December 10 - with almost immediate releases upon completed mixing.
In February 1967 they recorded a number of tunes at Olympic that would result in songs for the next album as well as two albums later, then went on tour for almost a month.
Sessions for what became THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST started in May at Olympic with She's A Rainbow and We Love You.
