Mick Jagger attacked a beat group... 1964!

On July 11 of 1964, Melody Maker published a handwritten piece by Mick under an aggressive head-line: “The top spot? I don’t care a damn…” Once again taking on the persona of a “rebel without a cause,” the article stirred major controversy as Mick openly attacked several bands and expressed his hatred toward others. It marked the beginning of a short-lived drama.

Regarding the young beat group, Mick wrote in one of the passages: “I HATE the record ‘I can tell’, by the Zephyrs. It’s unbelievable. They try hard to sound gassed and excited. They end up sounding like a load of rubbish.”

Who remembers this controversy? I've attached the video with the rest of the story.

The Zephyrs’, I Can Tell, is widely considered to feature Jimmy Page on guitar. It features on one of my Jimmy Page ‘60’s sessions’ compilations.

I disagree with Jagger's then comment. As powerful as the Stones in those days, at least this song.
