From back in the day. He and his partner are best known for One Toke Over The Line. Some of the songs they did/covered are All Along The Watchtower, Wichi-Tai-To (a great tune). RIP Mister Shipley.

They weren't just One-Hit Wonders. There was also this:

I saw them a few years later-- around '76 or '77--as an opening act at the Roxy for either the re-formed Booker T & the MGs (with Willie Hall on drums) or maybe Burton Cummings. (I was sitting in the same spot for both of those shows, and I remember watching them from that angle.)

It's a real achievement to have had radio hits in the early '70's when you think of the high level of quality that any artist had to compete with back then.

RIP

Americans over a certain age will remember watching "The Lawrence Welk Show" with their grandmothers. The show was a sort of Normal Rockwell musical cavalcade. Believe it or not, in spite of the marijuana references, "One Toke Over the Line" was sung on the Lawrence Welk Show. At the end of the performance, Welk calls the song a "modern spiritual." He was fooled by the word "Jesus" in the song lyrics.
