Rolling Stones concerts broadcast on TV in the past
Posted by: stonesman87 ()

I've got interested in the subject of Stones concerts - I mean complete or near-complete - that have been broadcast on TV in the past but haven't been commercially released on VHS or DVD/BD.

Some TV broadcasts have made it to DVD in recent years (many of us will know which ones they are), reducing the list somewhat, but I can't quite figure out how or where to research this topic. Googling it doesn't come up with any proper chronological lists that I've found so far. Nico's site (https://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/works1.htm) could have it all, but it's difficult to do a word search for terms like "full performance", "full concert" and "TV" without getting a whole lot of results for just TV interviews and a couple of guest appearances or songs, etc.

So far, the only concerts I know of in my search are:

1. Barcelona 13/14.6.90 (Nico 900625B ) - Spanish TV special Tele 5, telecast 25.6.90

2. Bridges to Chorzów 14.8.98 (Nico 980814C) - Polish TV Polsat, telecast 30.8.98 (this one's been posted on IORR recently)

Does anybody know of any more, or how to fully research this topic?

Good spot(s), Irix. Glastonbury, I have, but Saitama, I haven't. I've only found a dead torrent link for that one. Can you post it, or can anybody else?

Also, I guess that if you can only come up with a couple of 'em, there might not be very many at all in my current subject.

There have been quite a few over the years; when I first started getting VHS bootlegs it was TV broadcasted concerts were high on the list.

Barcelona 1990 was my first, I taped that one from TV.

There have been quite a few Rio/Buenos Aires from the Voodoo, Bridges & Bigger Bang tours if memory serves.

Babylon had some great TV broadcasts, some of which since released - if memory serves, we had Bremen, Chorzow, Istanbul, Rio & Buenos Aires from 1998.

Saitama 2006 is also a great one. MSG '03 of course, since released on DVD. The previous night also available, filmed as back-up maybe ahead of the main show.

Bangalore 2003 another.

From what I remember. I think it was broadcasted on BBC Radio 2, only.

Hi. The following is a partial list of shows broadcast on TV. Most were recorded and broadcast at a later date.

Hampton, December 18, 1981 was broadcast live on Pay-per-view (PPV) TV; Atlantic City, December 19, 1989 PPV; I believe all or part of Wembley, July 7, 1990 was broadcast on TV.

st. Louis, December 12, 1997 PPV

Istanbul, September 19, 1998, at least a portion was on Turkish TV.

There were several shows broadcast during Voodoo Lounge: Miami, November 25, 1994; all or part of Rio de Janerio, February 2, 1995; Buenos Aires, February 16, 1995; Johannesburg, February 25, 1995; One of the Tokyo shows 1995.

The actual question by the original poster is: broadcasted on TV, but not officially released on VHS/DVD/BD.

The Barcelona 90 that you mentioned I have on dvd and just pulled it out to watch it again the other night. While the packaging and video is impressive. The audio is awful. I quit watching before Start Me Up even finished.

Atlantic City 1989 was a broadcast.

I am not 100% sure but I think Houston 1981 was a local broadcast.

Wasn't the South Africa show in 1995 broadcast?

NYC in 2003 was also broadcast.

There was (or at least there should be) a simulcast on their Singapore concert in 2014. Some people outside the venue were able to see the concert in real time (or almost that). As far as I know, none of this footage showed up.

Yes, there's an unfortunate amount of departure from the subject that I set out in the first place. Much of the response doesn't relate to the subject.

I might keep it to just getting the Saitama 2006 one. That link to BD would take an eon to get from FF. Can anybody put it up in DVD using WET or Pixeldrain?

I personally recorded all of the following:

Atlantic City 1989 (x2 as it was rebroadcast edited with 3 songs in 3D)
Miami 1994
St Louis 1997
NYC 2003
New Jersey 2012

St Louis is the only one not to get a full official archive or vault release (although it was released as an incomplete dvd). So I would expect that one to see the light of day hopefully sooner than later.

Irix, thanks for pointing that out. I could potentially "sweat it out" over those FF links (less than that other massive lot). Trouble is, with that "new" FF, I constantly get a "File Access Error" result. Can those 5 files be put on WET or Pixeldrain by anybody?

The circulated version of Saitama broadcast on blue ray is fantastic, a good thing for the next release

Why release something that we already have in excellent quality? All what they'll do is make the sound a bit worse and make some unnecessary edits. Just look what they've done to Copacabana. It's unlistenable.

I wish they would have been more generous with air-time in the tv-specials or news snippets made around the concerts. In 1990 in Gothenburg they showed two minutes of a song - why not a whole song or more?
The same on the tv-special on the premiere of the 1995 tour in Stockholm. Only one song. Why not two or three? I understand it's a teaser but anyway...

'Stones in the Park' was a 1969 UK TV broadcast of the July 4th show.

Two (interesting to me) related questions are:

Do any of these broadcasts include any songs that were not previously released at the time of broadcast? For example, 'Stones in the Park' has "I'm Yours and I'm Hers".

Should such songs count in their chronology of released songs? The (great) Time Is On Our Side site does not count "I'm Yours" but I've long wondered if it should -- if not at #133 for the broadcast then later at #351 for the DVD.
