I was wondering if anyone from the Stones ever commented on Deep Puple or any of their many members, I know that they did about Led Zeppelin, just curious.

Maybe slightly off-topic, but Ritchie Blackmore has stated that he didn't like the Rolling Stones, but he did like Mick Taylor. For what it's worth.

I haven’t read or heard anything myself. Ritchie Blackmore turned professional- before the Stones, in fact - in the early 60’s, so it is possible that he crossed paths with the Stones during the ‘Brian years’

I love the Gillan/Blackmore & Coverdale/Blackmore years. Saw them a couple of times between '84-'88.

Nicky Hopkins ... Carl O'Little ... Jimmy Page
Andy Wren ... Ritchie Blackmore were all members
Screaming Lord Sutch's band The Savages at different times ....

So you'd imagine Deep Purple musta got a
mention somewhere in Stones conversations .....

Mick Jagger once described Ritchie Blackmore as "the best guitarist he'd ever seen," but their friendship ended when Blackmore criticized The Stones in print. Blackmore recalls being a sensation in London, with big bands aware of him, and even the Rolling Stones having played with them once. Later, Jagger was impressed by Blackmore's vibrato use and riffs, like those in Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water".

I think Deep Purples' breakthrough came later than the Stones'. Deep Purple were pioneers in a new school - hard rock. The Stones never went there. Blackmore was also a schooled musician trying out more diverse and progressive things than the Stones ever did. The Stones kind of stayed true to their roots (blues and rock and roll).

Well Deep Purple do mention the “Rolling Truck Stones thing just outside” on Smoke on the Water so I assume they were using the mobile recording studio the Stones owned?

I seem to remember Deep Purple were scheduled to be the opening act of the Stones 1969 US tour.
Purple used the Stones mobile truck for recording.
Ronnie played in Santa Barbara Machine Head in 1966 with Jon Lord who was also in Ronnie's brothers band The Artwoods.

Good catch!

I feel like I've read somewhere that both Keith and Ritchie Blackmore participated in a recording session together in the mid-60's; maybe Immediate Records?

Richie Blackmore in his Rainbow days was so fantastically good...a sobering experience on my own capabilities.

He was an absolute virtuoso; and cocky and confident with it. Despite that 'knowing', I have always found his playing to be, largely, incredibly melodious and tasteful; which is not something that all exceptionally 'technically proficient' guitarists are capable of.
