OT: RIP Terence Stamp

Just passed. A good actor. The Collector (a classic to be be found and watched), Far From The Madding Crowd, Superman II, The Limey, are some of his roles I remember well. Must confess, I also saw him among other flicks in Modesty Blaze, a pure 1960s thing, with Monica Vitti as Modesty, which was the main reason I saw the movie. Impetuous youth. RIP Mister Stamp.

If you've never seen Billy Budd, his first (and best) movie, do yourself a favor and see it. That's the one he should be remembered for. Of course, in our dumbed-down, lowest common denominator society, even the BBC can only report, "Superman Actor Dead at 87."

Fun Fact: He was the brother of Chris Stamp, who managed The Who for many years.

One of the best films ever made. Terence Stamp and Julie Christie.. what a combination! What a movie!

Rest in peace, Terence Stamp

With he, and the likes of Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris and - my favourite - Oliver Reed, now all sadly departed, it seemingly only leaves that legendary Londoner, Michael Cane, remaining of the great British and Irish actors of the 1960's. Great actors; even more legendary drinkers.

Very true and in fact, Terence Stamp and Michael Caine once shared a flat together in Wigmore Street, London, and no doubt enjoyed a drink or two on many occasions.

Farewell and RIP Terence Stamp.

His profile and image overlap with those of the late David Hemmings, another actor who represented all things Swinging London.

Obviously his performance in The Collector left a lasting impression on me but his role as the retired vice squad officer in Last Night In Soho, Stamp’s last feature film, was just as memorable. He made his presence felt to the final days in life. And then gone.

RIP “The Limey”

Hello,
So Terry Stamp takes his final bow at 87.
Friday 10th December, 1993: I'm killing time prior to meeting some other eejits at their house in er, Catford...walking along Piccadilly and I look across the road and there's Mr Stamp, posting a letter.
"Excuse me- Mr Stamp?"
"Yes, yes it is."
"Just read your autobiography...loved it. It's er, my birthday today- any chance of an autograph?"
"Certainly...what shall I sign?"
<scrabbles around in back-pack for anything...a diary will do! I also had a four pack of Guinness in there for later. Obviously.>
"Just on 10th Dec will be great- tell me, do you still drink?"
"In moderation, yes."
"Fantastic- here's a tin of Guinness."
"Thank you...I'll enjoy that later."
(Pre-mobile phones innit so no selfie! Plus he was a big, old Who fan: no surprise when his bro co-managed them until 1973. His favourite album was 'Sell Out'. Now I think about it, I did offer TS the four-pack but he laughed and said that one would be fine. Top man, top stalking!
UPDATE: and we saw Palace beat Birmingham 2 -1 the next day!)

Cheers,

Simon.
