Unlike many of you fine, knowledgeable folks, I’m not a student of music. Can’t play, refuse to sing (it’s a public service - you’re welcome!), don’t read liner notes, just listen to what I like. Which includes a lot of Stones and their influences. Around 1980 a friend introduced me to an album I still love - Son of Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson. I Googled it recently and was surprised to see who plays on this album - which is maybe one of the reasons it grabbed me. Nicky Hopkins, Bobby Keys and Jim Price for starters. Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Peter Frampton are in there as well. I always loved Take 54, Ambush and You’re Breaking My Heart - no wonder, looking at the album credits!
(It’s also darkly amusing to see that the Senior Citizens of the Stepney & Pinner Choir Club No. 6, London, England contributed vocals to I’d Rather Be Dead … watching the video, alcohol was involved and they seemed to be having rather a time of it!)
Wondering what other projects they’ve worked on that I should listen to.
