OT : Black Keys things

I'm surprised we don't have a Black Keys "topic" on IORR, their music is "close" to what our boys sometimes did in the past and of course they made a bang on the PPV in 2012 !

Anyway after a tough 2024 for them they're back with a new album today "No Rain, No Flowers" and it seems they're getting some good reviews

I saw them back in 2012, good raw show. Don´t like the following records too much.
I listened to the new one today..mmmmmh, bit boring but as always its a just a question of taste.

both excellent records
ater that saw them one more time but it all became a bit too smooth for my taste

I haven't followed them as much as I used to like 15+ years ago. I saw them for under 20 bucks in my home town in 2008 and then they got pretty big.

I hear T Rex riffs, Spirit in the Sky, and even a pro wrestling theme in their newer songs smoking smiley

I do not listen to them much anymore.

I do have a drumstick given to me at the 2012 PPV.

This is a band I used to listen to fairly frequently but just got tired of.

Different taste, I guess.

I like a good amount of their hits. I've tried the full albums and they just haven't done it for me. They seemed to have a rough "comeback" year last year, and I'm not sure how much they get out of their interviews claiming they basically really don't like each other but are stuck together making the music. Doesn't seem like they hate each other, but if given the freewill to work elsewhere they might not choose to keep this going. They were certainly on the rise as one of the "newer" rock bands and made a name for themselves, though never stratospherically broke through.

I feel like I gave them enough chances to really wow me but maybe I'll get around to the new record. As a touring entity, they are certainly a bit mysterious to me.

The new album is quite good.

I used to like their early stuff, Thickfreakness and, in particular, Rubber Factory, when they were a duo.
After they stepped into a “big band” (so to speak) phase, I lost interest in them. They opted for sophistication at the expense of rawness and the garage feel in my view.

That's exactly how I feel about them too. I loved those early albums. The first time I saw them was in a small club in New Orleans and they were awesome. The last time was in an arena, and they just didn't do it for me, especially with the 4-piece format which dissipates the rawness. I've sort of drifted away from them now.

I like their music, but hadn't really done a deep dive yet

Saw them in Hamburg a few months ago; a bit underwhelmed.

Some of the videos stick in my mind, e.g. the playground smackdown with the MILF. Not sure of the song.

Even "Lonely Boy" ? That one's pretty memorable ;-)

@bye bye johnny - Thanks for the videos, that drummer's sure loud in the mix and he speeds up/down a bit in "Lonely Boy", no ?
