Somewhere on the Internet is a really funny interview with Nick Lowe talking about the night Keith Richards joined rockpile on stage at the bottom line in NYC right after being released from his Canadian drug bust and how Dave Edmunds and Keith got into it because Keith was so out of it he kept playing in the wrong key and they finally had to have him escorted from the stage -funny stuff

Nick Lowe says that since Dave Edmunds knew the Stones(1960's) Dave was not impressed by Keith's playing Chuck Berry rhythm guitar.
My thought on that subject is that Dave must not have listened to Get Yer Ya-Ya's out very well...
In that story, Dave appeared reluctant to be excited by Keith's appearance at the Bottomline club in NYC. Rock and roll guitar players rivalry I supposed.
Dave Edmunds is a great guitar player and I wish him well.

Dave Edmunds is more derivative in his approach to play Chuck Berry's style because he can. Keith is not a good copyist, therefore he had to come up with his own style and we like it that way. Dave criticism of Keith is legit from the POV of a purist but Keith has created something, a sound, a way of playing rhythmn guitar that is outstanding. Both musicians are great.Quote

Maybe because he played «Chuck Berry lead guitar»?
