I missed the 1978 tour in the New York City and New Jersey Area:

After having seen The Stones in 1969, 1972, 1975, and 1981, I missed seeing them in 1978. Even though I lived in the NY-NJ area, 55 miles from NYC, and constantly monitored WNEW FM and WPLJ FM, I never heard of any tickets being offered in that area, so I missed that tour.

Bridges to Babylon, the setlist was amazing.

Great tour, saw it twice. The best set lists were from 1997 to 2003, and then in 2012-2013.

Cool to hear about others my age having similar experiences surrounding Steel Wheels!

In some ways, now, thinking about that tour is startling: it was massive, the stage was massive, the shows were massive, the hype was massive, possibly the most hype for a tour ever.

The album got a ton of attention and two of the four singles got a lot of attention. It was a very big moment. It might be their most important tour in their existence.

And it almost didn't happen because of two egos butting heads, one being stupid, the other being stubborn.

That's ridiculous.

Brussels or London '73 and a theater show in '78. Started in '81 at age 13 and saw everything thereafter.

I wish I had seen them on the Europe '70 tour. And on one of the crazy Down Under shows in 73.
But only, knowing what I know today, haha..
Otherwise, would I even know what hit me?

The first few times I saw the Stones I was so high, and/ or so exhausted, that I was way more absorbed in my own show. It was more like "oh yea, and there's Mick too..."

The Invicta Ballroom - Chatham, Kent, U.K. - 1964

Any of the Steel Wheels or Urban Jungle shows.

Dunno how that show passed me by, guessing as I was only eleven, but wish I’d seen it too , Big Al!

But made it to my first show at Odeon Cinema, Rochester, Kent, U.K. 1965 at grand old age of twelve!

My first was 1981 so it would be 69, 72, 75, and of course an early tour with Brian

Everything prior to 1981 would be on my list.

Who was the stubborn, and who was the stupid?
Name and shame, please.

I would like to have seen any tour prior to 1973.

Anything with Brian.

Or the Newcastle shows in 1971.

The best set lists since 1989 were the club shows Paradiso, Olympia and Brixton.

Australia 1973. Still can't believe how few photos there are of this tour (especially Sydney) Virtually no photos of Brisbane or Adelaide shows.

Any show prior to '69 would have been memorable. Even today I have met very few people who saw the band pre '69. One of them, bluesman Mick Martin, saw Keith get zapped in Sacramento. I have only met one person who was at Altamont. She was on the hillside and said she had no idea what was going on below. However, I am pleased to have seen the band in '69, '72 and '73 at the Forum.

I know a Japanese guy who had a ticket for the 1973 Japan tour that had to be cancelled when Mick was denied a visa. I wish he had got to see that tour because then he could regale me with stories of the concert and Mick Taylor’s playing (he was a fan of the Mighty Taylor) on nights when I'm obligated to go drinking with him. His other drinking stories are really boring.

Those cancelled five Budokan nights…definitely one of the biggest missed opportunities in the live history of The Rolling Stones. They were on top of their game then. If it had materialized as planned, the whole event would have gone down as historic and legendary as Led Zeppelin’s first Japan tour 1971. A real miss.

The 1969 US tour where they still played theatres and Mick Taylor was at his very best.

I first saw them at Wembley in 73 and in reality it was an extension of the US tour in 72 but with four songs from Goats Head Soup replacing a few from Exile On Main St.

I've seen every European tour since then.

1981 Slane Castle Ireland. My Da & brothers worked the security for it. I was too young.

I’d love to have seen the original line up with Brian, any tour, anywhere.

After that it’d be ‘72.

You caught the rainy 2007 show though?

To only pick one is hard… I’ll go 72 over a Brian era show by a small margin.
1972 Stones was one of the best rock n roll bands there’s ever been.
