Thanks for the alert, news to me!

Sounds like Burna Boy is toying around with this song for quite some time now, but didn't release it yet:

Looks like MJ was the missing ingredient.

There's nothing special about the song. It's just another loopy mostly tuneless drone. There are thousands of songs just like it.

Put Mick Jagger on it and...?

It will get attention for a few days.

Burna Boy talks about working with Mick on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders July 8 program (@ 33:45)

Jack Saunders - "What was the experience of working with Mick Jagger like?"

Burna Boy - "That was the best surprise I can get, you know? Because it's something I always wanted to do but I never thought he'd be up for it. For me I'm still speechless about the whole thing, you know?"

JS - "Tell us about the link up. Did he need some convincing in any way? How did it all come about?"

BB - "Oh man, so Naomi Campbell actually introduced us. And it was just love since then. And then we've been going back and forth. And finally, he just picked this one, but he had a whole band on there doing this whole thing, like the real Mick Jagger."

i'm not at all into music like this so can't really say if this is good or bad for what it is

but give mick some credit for being open minded enough to give it a go

and pretty sure i hear mick playing guitar on this too which is neat

Interesting. To a point.

Mick staying with being relevant?

He has hopefully figured out that's not important and hasn't been since 1989.

But he can play, right? Do whatever.

Burna is all "autotuned" with the usual whatever for rhythmic things.

Mick comes in and he's not autotuned, there's guitars, there's drums... the blend/fades work fantastically.

A nothing burger in a nice box.

I'm 37 and I feel way too old for such kind of music. I think it's awful.

Wouldn't have been out of place as a cut on Goddess in the Doorway, Mick's vocal in this even reminds me of a track on there, can't remember which one.

So I didn't dislike the song actually, a bit bland but I think it could grow on you. I found Mick's vocal intro a bit jarring and maybe could have done without that but the chorus's were fine.

If you were truly channeling MJ, then Dirty Work wouldn't be on your ghetto blaster.

Looks like they left off the MJ-track on the physical releases of the album. It's neither on the CD which I received yesterday nor on the two new entries for LPs on Discogs. Pity!

Does anyone know a pressing either LP or CD which added Empty Chairs to the tracklisting?

Seems so. Only 15 tracks and no 'Empty Chairs' (feat. Mick) between the tracks 'Kabiyesi' and 'Update'. Here's the rear cover of the Blue Vinyl-LP:

Blue Vinyl Edition: [www.hhv.de] , Midnight Brown Vinyl Edition: [www.hhv.de] . 15-track CD on [www.jpc.de] . [Facebook.com] comment: "Bought the cd but the song is not on the album!".

Burna Boy admits to problems working with Mick Jagger until 'humble' breakthrough

Rolling Stones icon Mick Jagger made Burna Boy work hard for a feature on his new album. Mick agreed to work with the Nigerian star however originally turned down track after track.

By Sam Mayers
14 Jul 2025

Mick Jagger couldn’t get No Satisfaction when he worked with Burna Boy.

The Rolling Stones legend is an unlikely feature on the Afrobeat star’s new LP, but it took a few attempts before they found a track up to Mick’s high standards.

Burna Boy, real name Damini, spilled: “I made a few songs just for him but then none of the ones I made just for him ended up working, he didn’t even like those ones, he liked this one.”

In the end Dartford rocker Mick connected to the lyrics of Burna’s tune Empty Chairs - a song about rising to stardom from humble beginnings.

He told KISS XTRA: “It’s something he can relate to coming from where he’s coming from and being who he is, he’s gone through that stage obviously and he’s seen the transitions and everything, he’s been through all that.

“If anybody understood what that song stood for it would be Mick Jagger.”

The Jagger hook-up came thanks to well-connected model pal Naomi Campbell:

“It’s mad, I remember I was with Naomi Campbell and I just said it to her, it was random, and she was like, ‘yeah you should call him’ and then she did!”
