Redlands visit
Posted by: dunhill ()
Date: June 19, 2025 19:11

I will be travelling in the UK from June 30th and I'm planning on visiting my son in Chichester.
I was thinking of checking out Redlands from teh outside and was wondering whether anyone could help me out in locating it.
Thank you!

While there is a Wiki entry, please note that this is still a private home!

A country pile, maybe, but a grade II listed building is definitely not a shack!

Of course, no intention to trespass or anything like that. I’m just curious as the place is full of Rolling Stones history.
Kinda like what I did at Nellecote, just a peek from the outside and digging the area.

Alright, bungalow...chalet, cottage. Just wondering what the folks that live there pay every month. Maybe they could cover it by giving tours 2 days a month

I don’t suppose there’s any harm in driving past, if it’s visible, that is. I have no idea how secluded it is. You can walk right past Jimmy Page’s ‘Tower House’ in Holland Park.

Does Keith still own the beach hut, he supposedly purchased?

There is nothing to see. You go up a sandy path in a forrest that ends up at a huge gate with cameras. You can't see the house from there, nor can you turn your car around. They must have had previous experience with fans getting a little too close for comfort.

My wife and I stayed in West Wittering for a few nights last year. I walked the dog around the public footpaths behind Redlands but as others have said there is nothing to see. The best view has been blocked by a large wooden structure on wheels. If you drive up the lane to Redlands you do get a sense of history. At the top of the lane on the left is an interesting plaque describing the houses in the hamlet and their history. From the front all you can see is Redlands roof.

If you are in the area just as interesting in West Wittering is the first workshop used by Messrs Rolls and Royce. There is a plaque on the wall commemorating this.

Rolls and Royce! Definitely the Jagger and Richards of their day!!

A pint in the local boozer is probably of more interest. If it's good enough for Keith......

Regardless of Redlands, West Wittering seems like a nice village in West Sussex; undisturbed and unaffected by the lunacy of London.

Ok, thank you guys. If it ain't worth the visit and you can' t see nothing well... guess we'll skip the visit.
We did once trespass in Jimmy Page's former house on Lochness, Boleskine House, and we managed to get very close.

You never know what you get when you visit a home of a former or current musician. In 1982 my friend Richard took me to the home Syd Barret was living in.

I got out of the car, knocked on the door and he actually answered. I told him I thought he was a genius and asked for his autograph.

He signed a piece of paper "Barrett" which I still have in my safe deposit box.

It is one of my most vivid memories from my trip that year.

What a shock it was. In some ways I am still in disbelief. It is one of my most treasured memorabilia!

Just look up Redlands Lane (off the B2179), it is at the end of that - but you cannot get near the property because it is a private driveway.

Maybe you should read up on why Syd Barrett was an effective recluse and the opinions of Gilmour and Waters about those who tried to find him before proudly telling that story again....

Well first of all I did not go looking for him.

Second, I have proudly told the story since 1982 including when I worked Pink Floyd concerts in 1987.

And so far, you are the only one to make such a negative comment.

Sorry, but I'm having trouble reconciling on the one hand getting "out of the car to knock on his door", and on the other saying that you did "not go looking for him".

I think when Anita was alive Keith let her live there.

Surprised Keith's bothered to rent it out, what's he worth half a billion dollars or something.

Perhaps he still lets family and friends stay there, he might spend time there himself.

I'm almost certain there was a picture of Keith and his wife there, circa 2018. It must've been around the time the Stones were touring the U.K. and Europe.

It's true that Anita was there.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't rent it out.

The picture is on pinterest. I'm unsure how to post it, here. It's definitely taken in the Redlands garden.

I'm sure someone said here, once, that he spends 'a couple of weeks' per year, at Redlands.

Keith with a pitchfork is classic!

Be careful what you look for poking around Redlands!

Yep. Some friends of mine spent some time near Redlandas in the 80s. One day Keith came out with a gun and giving an autograph.

I've been to Redlands and have spent the night at Keith's family bungalow located next to Redlands. Lovely property but not easy to find. The wall around Redlands does not afford any real views of anything although the moat is partially visible from a particular spot. Otherwise you can just see a bit of the thatched roof.

The property is not available for rent. And Anita spent the last few months of her life at the family bungalow adjacent to Redlands but did not pass there.
