This was a bit odd...
In 1969 he was at Hyde Park, where the Stones were playing a free concert following the death of Brian Jones, and introducing Jones’s replacement, Mick Taylor.
“I was just a kid wandering around on the outside in dreamland thinking, I want to be in that band. And a car pulls up, and it’s Mick and Charlie.” They knew him, he says, “as a face” about town.
The accounts I recall of that day have The Stones meeting in a hotel and getting taken to the show in an armoured van (or similar). How could M & K have been in a car?

Every time he tells the story of how he got in the Rolling Stones, it's always a different story...

“He was finally given the all clear only a few weeks ago”
So that could clearly explain the change of plans for 2025.
I don’t think Mick and Keith at any point in 1969 considered him as a replacement for Brian. He was a bass player at the time in Beck’s band.Once Taylor auditioned for them, they stopped looking for a replacement.By 1974 ,Mick and Keithhad both played with him. They also probably liked his work in the Faces.Plus Wood was on stage at the Newport Jazz Festival, in the USA on July4,1969,so he could not have been at Hyde Park for the concert.Quote

The true story, that he and Keith and Mick were great mates and they wanted him in the band since Brian left, just isn't a very exciting story I guess...

Ta.
Seems like once these Rock Stars get an idea in their head about something in the past it's rather hard to shift it back to the truth.
McCartney has the same problem. He keeps repeating a tale about how he was walking along a street in London in 1963 (with Lennon) - which of course would not have been possible due to their mega-fame - and they spotted Mick & Keith in a taxi and then joined them in the studio to let them use "I wanna be your man". It's wrong of course.
Mick & Keef were walking, having a break from a session, and John & Paul were in a taxi after a presentation awards lunch. THAT is confirmed from Wyman's diary which he does each day.
McCartney has been told he's got it wrong, but he still relates it the wrong way round.
Just like Ronnie and a concert in Hyde Park....

Ronnie is the best.
Charismatic, larger-than-life personality that just gives The Rolling Stones more staying power year after year. Never boring, always on. We are very lucky that it worked out the way it did, however the story goes...

All of the long time members of the band have had periods where they have been a wee bit below par. That goes for Ronnie as well, of course, particularly in the late 90s and 00s.
But let's not forget that he took on the role as the responsible one in the guitar department when Keith had problems. That may have saved the band and made them decide to go on through the 10s and now the 20s (as incredible as it may sound).
Btw, I don't agree with posters above who claim that Ronnie didn't do great tours in 81/82 and 89/90.
