Why would anyone complain about a new album they haven’t heard.
Because:
It's not in the top 10 streaming of Shitify
It's not on SIRUIS/XM
It sounds a lot like Angry
It sounds a lot like Start Me Up
It sounds like - oops - it sounds as zero people know

Every Rolling Stones album has at least 3/4 songs that I really like, so i'm always looking forward to a new album. Even if it more like Dirty Work than Sticky Fingers.
Leftover is a derogatory term in my opinion. Maybe they just don't wanted two bluessongs or two country tunes on Hackney Diamonds, so they left the other ones on the shelf.
Also, it's been 27 months since Hackney Diamonds was finished. I can't imagine they haven't written any new songs in the meantime.
or there something so out there and different that they couldn't figure out how to make it work with the other songs on hd
that's what i'm hoping for one more significant stylistic change from this band (like tsmr or beggars or some girls or undercover was)
as much as i like hackney diamonds and as much as i acknowledge that it has it's own sound
it's also not in my view a significant departure from the kinda music they made 40 years ago it just has a more modern sounding production
i'd like to hear them take a chance and experiment with new types of music and sounds
i want something that will shock, surprise and challenge me as a listener and fan
something very different but still distinctly stonsey
maybe i'm asking to much of them at this point in time and i'll like it even if it's something more familiar but mick's comment about the leftovers being different has allowed me to hope that they'll really suprise and challenge us one more time
While I don't disagree with anything you've said here, or don't also wish the same as you, isn't it interesting to step back and take a look at what that actually means.
That we as fans and our expectations are still so high, given how much time has passed and their advanced age.
Were there any Sinatra fans...ANY...that were demanding his new material "surprise and challenge" them as listeners? It's laughable. I recall the couple of duets albums that came out at the end of the 90s and it was like a revelation in the music world. "DUETS...so cool". Stones put out a live album with a few duets and are derided.
And here we are, with Mick and Keith the same age as Sinatra when he passed, 82, and they're STILL putting out new albums, with new material and still perpetually on tour...fascinating.
Yet collectively we as fans cannot get enough...no satisfaction.

May be they work on Exile II … Hackney Diamonds is great, even better live, but with an extra effort, the next one could be even greater.

i'm just to be clear not demanding they surprise and challenge me just hoping
oddly i wouldn't have allowed myself to think they could do this five years ago
but here we are after mick and keith turned 80 and released an album the quality of hd and then somehow managed a tour as good as the one last year i think it's probably wise at this point not to underestimate them as artist and what there still capable of
i don't think we're getting an exile level album but we maybe getting something very special anyways
and i'm not gonna be disappointed or anything if they don't end up reinventing the wheel
but it's fun to think they still could

And just so I'm clear, I didn't think that, but rather was reflecting on the fact that at this point we even dare to dream that, and that isn't even a far stretch.
Rather fantastic in my humble opinion...(I don't ascribe to those you articulate their "not-so-humble-opinions").

Correct your opinion about "leftover" - it has served The Rolling Stones fantastically from 1968 through 1983 (depending on.... opinion, of course, but as far as I understand their last leftover was Cellophane Trousers for Too Tough).
EOMS has a lot of SF sessions leftovers. TY is 100% leftovers.
How you could like DW more than SF is bizarre. DW is kids with training wheels bad.
I like them a bit rawer and rootsier too, but why do you assume a more pop-oriented style is dishonest? Mick has always been about merging the Stones sound with what's current. That seems to be what fires him up. Why would that not be genuine?Quote

Like with the new album, we already know it's a Jagger/ Watts production, so I'll bet it will sound very similar to Hackney Diamonds, i don't expect much else, good for you as you like old men trying to sound young, perhaps that makes you feel young, who knows, I'd rather my Stones grew up and created something more honest.

I'm wondering if there will be any featured guests on this album? We know there's another Macca track from the HD sessions so that seems like a safe bet. I'd also love to see Willie Nelson on a Stones track.
As far as contemporary artists, I think Dua Lipa is a possibility, she visited the Stones in the Studio but it's unclear if they recorded anything. Sabrina Carpenter's brand of vintage blonde-bombshell sexuality would certainly fit well into the Stones world, she's also collaborated with other Icons of the Stones era like Dolly Parton and Paul Simon. Mick's son, Lucas, has also stated that Mick is a big fan of Chappell Roan, citing Good Luck, Babe! as Mick's favorite song of 2024. Lady Gaga was obviously on HD but she's been having a big moment lately and I think it's possible they bring her back considering she has respect from the whole band and is a friend of Mick. Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX and Brandi Carlile have all worked with Andrew Watt in the past so they are also potentially "On the Table"

I am happy with whatever new stuff this give us. I am happy with anything from the vaults. I am happy with any remasters.
We should all be happy for anything we get nowadays instead of bickering over things.
I too would like an official release of every concert from 1969 up to 1982.
Agree! Although they do get a pass in the case of Paul McC, he can guest on another song or two ... and no need to state the obvious, Bill W, Mick T would be great but I don't necessarily consider them as guests.Quote

frankly i could do with less celebrity guests ...

The Rolling Stones does not take requests when recording. May be from their mastermind producer, and their band mates, but I don’t think they go to social media for finding ideas while in studio.
I will be happy with whatever they do. Since 1963, what a recording legacy! We are talking 2025, 62 yers on, and two years after their previous studio album. I am just happy to be part of it all!
