The leftovers from the HD sessions were

1. Finished
2. Recorded again

As well as new material and now there's enough material for two albums.

How strange.

I speculated a few pages back that I think this is the beginning of a new era where they focus on more frequent new material releases.

Not sure how much touring will still be in the long term plan, certainly 'residencies' are probably more likely than criss-crossing the globe, but now that their appetite is whet with HD, I could see some very interesting releases from them.

They'll have a next album, and maybe one after that, but also standalone singles or even shorter thematic EP's and more collaborations with other artists.

The world is their oyster and as long as they're having fun they'll evolve what they're doing to fit their lifestyle.

well i'm not as optimistic as you are about there future as recording artists

i do think it's possible there's an album after the next one if it actually turns out that this album is freshly recorded and not built almost entirely of hd leftovers

that'll indicates to me that they still have the creative juice and desire to do this even in there 80's

maybe a few more projects like the clifton cheiner one

but let's not get ahead of ourselves there ages are a huge barrier to getting more then maybe one more album after the next

it's really a shame they couldn't have gotten there collective sh-t together after the reunion in 2012

they just don't have much time left now

The time frame for this era kind of started in December of 2015 with 7 days of recording new material, the first version of Driving Me Too Hard started then, and blues covers. Unlike the 1960s-1990s the sessions were not for months. Spring into summer of 2016 they finished up BLUE AND LONESOME.

Early 2019 is the actual time frame for HD when they started recording at Henson, which resulted in Living In A Ghost Town, Mess It Up and Live By The Sword on HD.

Then they took a 3 year break!

The 40-80 songs according to Don Was they had must've mostly been recorded in 2019.

The album, sans Live By The Sword and Mess It Up, was recorded from mid-October to early December 2022.

They've apparently had the same focus for the new album having recorded more material in just a couple months as well as finished whatever from the HD sessions.

Maybe they'll release a stand alone single between now and whenever the album comes out, which will probably be just before the 2026 tour, so maybe April. Which would make the most sense, unlike HD.

It's unlikely they'll release it earlier because of the November BLACK AND BLUE deluxe reissue, which, if they stick to what they've done, there should be a single about a month before the deluxe is released.

So the new album will be released likely next year in the Spring with a possible Tour to support?Only predictions, or uUMG has already decided?

My speculation is merely what UMG could wisely do unlike how they completely bailed with HACNEY DIAMONDS and the tour.

I'm not so sure it's optimism, though I am admittedly optimistic, but pragmatism.

They clearly have a desire to continue and as they get older the whole touring process will get more difficult. They are already writing and recording much much and as Skippy has outlined, that has been a trend for awhile.

So it must seems more likely that for RS projects they'll do more creative stuff which as long as they're having fun, why not? It's also an easy way for them to stay relatively relevant and topical.

Posting a song that seems to be a teaser is pretty usual on their social media; but the choice of the photo associated to that specific verse of the song gives me hope that this is something.

What we don't know is how much material they've recorded except for what they say. So for HD there were, I forget, say 7 leftovers.

This year they supposedly finished those and recorded more.

How many more?

Some think enough to have another album after this new one.

Then there's the supposed 40-80 songs from 2015-2019 with exception to 3 that we know of.

They always record more than what an LP requires. At least two album sessions have had 40 plus songs recorded in the past (SG and ER - that's 80ish songs recorded between 1977 and 1979), but they seem to have roughly 10-12 leftover, regardless of what shape they're in.

UNDERCOVER has a lot of leftovers. So does DIRTY WORK. VOODOO has a nice amount. BRIDGES? Doesn't seem like it - a handful. But that's only what we know.

Perhaps they somehow tightened things up post-1994 in terms of what amount of songs recorded.

But 40-80 songs between 2015 and...? For a band that doesn't spend a lot of time recording between 2012 and 2023 that's really pushing it.

I should have known there's nobody left on this goddamn forum that's nice. There's a teaser for a new Stones album online, I (a Rolling Stones fan) got excited and say an innocuous three word statement in my five word post that didn't single out anybody else on this forum. And two jerks have to give me hell over it. Why? What did I do? Got excited over the teaser? Oh no that really offends professor wolf and gaslight Street. That was my big goddamn crime?

Why are you guys allowed to post endlessly whining about stupid crap like Sabrina Carpenter sales and brickwalling, and then turn around and give hell to somebody who's been friendly on this forum for over 20 years for no actual reason other than you just want to act like jerks and wet blankets.

Gaslight Street and professor wolf you borh should be ashamed of yourselves for being so rude. I didn't do anything to either of you and both of you had to act like arrogant @#$%& to me for no other reason than just being excited for the new album.

If you don't like people getting excited about new Stones music I got bad news for you because there are a lot of people out here who actually like the stones and are actually excited about this new album. But all you two want to do is act like jerks.

You want me to calm down? F*** you both.

If you don't like Stones fans getting excited over new Stones music maybe you should find another goddamn forum. Maybe you should join a forum that hates the Rolling Stones, so that your poor little delicate souls don't get offended by someone saying "oh yeah let's do this?" I can't believe that any body would be so mean and so rude.

What kind of thin skinned cretins get offended by something innocuous like that?

Both of you are being jerks for no reason. There was no call for it. There was no excuse for it. Thanks a lot for ruining my goddamn day. I really appreciate it.

While I agree with you civility should be expected I'm sure you and I tangled in the past on something - can't remember what it was - and I hope you didn't take that too seriously.

For the record, I'm with you on this, big fist pump. Why not get excited about a new RS release? They are teasing us to whet our appetite. Colour me whetted.

Yes. "let's do this" it's a common term meaning let's proceed.

What is "this" exactly? It's the beginning of promotions for a new album. Did you genuinely not get that? What are YOU smoking?

DO I WORK FOR HERTZ OR HOME DEPOT? What the hell does that mean? Are you just trying to be a jerk and then double down on it for some reason? What the f*** did I do to you other than express some goddamn enthusiasm for this new album? If that offends you then I must most sincerely apologize. I didn't we weren't allowed to be enthusiastic about this new album here. And you as boss of the threat and the forum were right to correct me. I promise I won't ever do it again. I hope you'll accept my sincere apologies for being excited over a new Rolling Stones album, and the fact that my enthusiasm offended you.

My parents recently died. I'm dealing with a lot of grief. I'm about to go out to a food bank right now because I can't afford food. I'm excited that my favorite band is releasing a new album. My second favorite band is the Ramones and you know what they're doing right now? All four of them are laying in their goddamn graves. So I'm glad that my number one favorite band is not only still together not only still alive but actually recording some new music and planning to release it. I'm excited for that and I don't want to apologize for that. But I will I will because apparently I was wrong and out of line for saying something so outrageous as "oh yeah let's do this."

So yeah when I wake up in the morning somebody's giving me s*** for saying something innocuous like "oh yeah let's do this" I'm spitting mad. I'm hurt my feelings are hurt. I'm seeing red right now and I don't care who knows it. I hope gaslight Street and professor wolf know it. That they acted like complete jerks to somebody who didn't deserve it. I hope that makes them happy. I hope it makes them feel good. I hope them making me feel the way I feel right now makes them feel really really good.

jahisnotdead,

Just ignore the negativity here. I know it is difficult sometimes.

It seems no matter what you say on here someone will come along and criticize it or bash you for whatever reason they can find.

They chased my Stones buddy of 40 years out of here. He works for Ticketmaster and has insights no one else on here has.

Of all people to run out of here. He has gotten me excellent seats at face value for years now.

I am certain many others stopped posting on here for the same reason.

I am very sorry to read what you are going through Jahisnotdead. One of the reasons music is such a beautiful gift for is the fact that it comforts us in difficult times, soothes our pain and allows us to put aside our anxieties and worries for a while. You have every reason to express your excitement at the news of a new Rolling Stones album. And where better to express it than here. Re-reading the thread I actually thought ProfessorWolf's post to be directed at GasLightStreet, to calm down. In any case, someone who is excited about the prospect of new Stones music should feel at home here. And sure you're not the only one, Jahisnotdead

The tease is from the chorus of Hackney Diamonds' "Whole Wide World".

When the whole wide world's against you
And you're standing in the rain
When all your friends have let you down
And treat you with disdain
When the whole wide world's against you
And that's got you on the run
And you think the party's over
But it's only just, only just begun

It is a reminder that they are not done as a band. Maybe they will post a hint next week.
