Nor do I, but I do think a happening will force them to stop... one day.

The morning show hosts didn't latch on to it though. So it ebbed away. Mr Rotten is a dream interview subject though. He makes his own headlines.

As long as the audience continues to like what you're doing and you continue to enjoy it, why would you stop? You could probably find clips from 1975 of people saying the same thing.

It's great that he speaks his mind so articulately, it would be boring if we all felt the same way. I disagree with him about The Stones of course, but I love that he puts it out there. And he found a way not to offend the Scots too. He ain't such a bad 'un.

I like Johnny a lot, love hearing his opinions. But I think this might be about himself not joining The Pistols on tour. Just a hunch.

Why retire if you enjoy working and people let you do it?

‘69 is my favourite position’

Only on breakfast television, would John Lyndon slip a line like that out.

I like John Lydon.

I saw the Sex Pistols in 2008. That should never happened.

I don't think Mick and Keith do care for a split second about what others may think about their career. They will never retire, unless they are physiclly unable to play and/or perform.

Don't worry - it's part of Lydon's demeanour to dismiss the Stones. He still is punk you know.

No problem for me that Johnny thinks that. I have always loved the guy speaks his mind. What you see is what you get. And I know he actually likes The Stones.
The guy is well-spoken and there is no secret agenda. Respect.

..............I've always said it.... saying you are "going to retire" in the rock 'n roll world kills the whole idea of being a cool rock 'n roll group.

It's the usual jealousy against the biggest rock 'n roll band of all time (never considered the Beatles as being rock 'n roll).

The Who just announced their "farewell tour". I still have the poster from the early eighties, "Schlitz Beer presents The Who farewell tour".eye rolling smiley

Great performer, has done very good things with PIL en Sex Pistols, but also a huge self-absorbed attention seeker. The sort of person who thinks that a day without insults and provocations is a day not lived. His observations should be taken with a big grain of salt. Especially over the last decade he's made some inmensely stupid comments.

Retiring anyway is nonsense. Nobody should retire. Do what you like.

Eh, Gene Simmons should retire.

He's a fearless artist. He is absolutely going to offend.

But here's the real deal;

'Standing on a stage alone w/o a script..'
'if you are advocating the death of another human...you are my enemy'

Hats off to him.

Precisely that statement of his about being against advocating the death of another human being are the words of an absolute hypocrite.

But that's the fingerprint of people like him: if he says "A" everyone who doesn't agree is his enemy but the next day when he says "not A" all the people who say "A" are his enemy. My diagnosis: a narcissist with a severe insecurity problem. I just wish someone in his circle would have the guts to stand up to him for once and tell him what's what.
And it's a pity because he's got talent. It's just wasted on him.

I think there is a risk of taking what he says too seriously.

What I like about Lydon is that he’s so open and expressive in interviews. He literally has no filter, espousing whatever may be on his mind in that particular moment. He doesn’t pussy-foot around issues, and I admire that. I generally enjoy his insights and opinions. I recognise he isn’t for everyone, but he is for me, and many, many more.

Thanks for posting the interview. As an American West Coaster, we don’t get much U.K. morning television.

Mr. Lydon has a prankster spirit and is a master provacateur.

With a PIL tour, and a solo spoken word tour booked, he’s aware of the allure of remaining on the stage and, decidedly, not retiring. I think he pokes fun at the Stones out of love and respect, knowing they are all Rock and Roll lifers.

My my, hey hey.
It’s better to burn out than to fade away
