RIP - Actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy and dog found dead inside New Mexico home

Legendary Hollywood actor Gene Hackman has been found dead in his Santa Fe, New Mexico home alongside his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican, citing police.

Santa Fe County police discovered the body of the two-time Oscar winner, 95, and 63-year-old Arakawa — his wife of 34 years and their dog — on Wednesday afternoon.

No foul play is suspected and no cause of death has been announced.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the news on Thursday.

One of The Great actors of our time. Our dad always watched Mississippi Burning at least once a year in the 90's and it is one of my favourite movies.

Live Forever Mr Hackman

Some kind of tragedy has seemingly occurred, with all three passing.

A fine actor. Mississippi Burning is a terrific film.

Rest in peace Gene Hackman, wife and dog.

What a tragedy with his wife and dog. Gene did 95 - that's more than most of us can hope for. Safe journey.

I've seen at least 20 of his pictures and he was worthy of an Oscar in all of them. RIP.

Loved him in The Conversation, and other films.

Waiting for more details on cause(s) of death of all three.

Clint Eastwood posted this yesterday with a message:

"Extremely saddened by the passing of Gene Hackman, He will be deeply missed..."

Was the wife older too? I am thinking it could have been an agreed upon end date, maybe they were tired from health issues.

But just to add .. what an amazing actor!

For some reason I didn't think they got along!

The two big ones for me were French Connection and Mississippi Burning. I think French Connection was his big breakthrough. In that case rather late into his career.

I want to see one of his films tonight as a tribute and it's difficult because I don't know which one to choose: too many masterpieces.

RIP both

A great actor. Of course. The French Connection is the biggie he will most be remembered for, but there's The Conversation, I Never Sang For My Father, The Poseidon Adventure, Night Moves, Hoosiers, Superman 1 and 2 (with Christopher Reeve as Superman), to be looked at, among others. RIP, sir.

Clint Eastwood too, I think I saw that he's 94, and about to be 95 within a month or two.

Gene Hackman's blindman in Young Frankenstein is a pillar in the history of cinema.

If I remember correctly he invented on the spot some of the funniest lines, and couldn't repeat the scene because he couldn't stop laughing!

Gene Hackman was for sure a great actor. As I am an ever greater fan of Clint Eastwood, I remember them both in "UNFORGIVEN", where Gene Hackman got Best Actor in Supporting Role, then Gene Hackman did of course also get a number of Oscars as "Best Actor in a Leading Role" as well. Rest In Peace Gene Hackman.

Crimson Tide was another outstanding film. Poseidon Adventure was always my favorite. He will be missed. He already is.
