Charlie Watts and Gimmie Shelter, perth 1973

Have always wondered how the great man could muck up the start of this in Perth.
Must have been having an off moment.
If we had footage, it would have been interesting to see Jagger and Keith trying to get him in the beat.
The only time ever he missed a beat.
The song turned out to be arguably their best rendition !

Not sure it’s Charlie at Wembley but more likely Keith. Charlie may be trying to cover / recover the situation.

Is it in Keith book "Life" or somewhere else where its said that Mick and Keith and I'm not sure who else dropped acid before that show?. Since learning that, it kind of throws my listening of that show off a bit. The Gimme Shelter intro, the midnight rambler mid-section, Mick's banter and singing happy birthday to Nicky . . . "aint he lovely" was something a friend of mine used to say all the time, mimicking Mick . . . interesting show to say the least.

Maybe Charlie had a jet lag.

Keith and Charlie (& Bill) were a unique rhythm unit but back then (73 & 82 here) Charlie was more dynamic and jazzy (busy) and treaded the rhythmic highwire a little more precariously, so when it fell apart, it did so spectacularly and seemed to take more than a few bars to get it back on track - to the point where Bill or Keith had to stop playing so Charlie could find his footing.

Until 2 minutes in the song it sounds like he's still struggling to get into the rhythm. Then by the time MT first solo ends he's on track.
