So a lot of interesting and borderline credible rumors, no hard facts other than Mick with producer in London? Thanks.

Not trying to stir up any mixed emotions here, but given their history of touring new albums in the USA first...would that not be the case again?

Personally, I'm hoping for a euro trip next summer. Just wondering if people are expecting them to break the mold on their typical album release touring habits--if a new album is on the horizon.

Georgelicks--is that from insider knowledge or an educated guess?

A mix of both, Universal is ready to promote a new Stones album by late 2025.

If all goes well it is a probable plan, if the album is finished by July it is a minimum of 4 months for the manufacturing of the vinyl so a release in the last week of November or the first of December is perfect to take advantage of the Christmas season and sell the biggest number of units during the pre-sale and in those 3-4 weeks, wasting that market and releasing the album in April/May 2026 is losing at least 50% of what the album could sell.

One or two indoor shows right around the album release are a real possibility, as was the Racket show.

A 2026 tour is also in the plans, but that's the hardest part right now. There's a year to go before then, and anything can happen in a year. The album is something much more concrete and almost certainly on the horizon within six months.

UMG's biggest issue was not releasing a (fourth) single just prior to the 2024 tour. UMG's 18 month plan turned out to be a bust: with a new single they could've done more in regard to sales for HD yet alone streaming, which is an aside regardless, but, you know, numbers.

Instead they focused on various vinyl issues. Name/star recognition is not enough. That already failed with HONK.

An album is the more exciting possibility, too.

Likewise. It looks like all the sporadic recording over the past decade-or-so has eventually proved useful; especially considering that there's more in the can featuring Charlie. Hopefully, they'll include the 'other' track featuring Bill.

I am wondering if ABKCO will strike back again with something Japan-made.

In 2019 they issued 50th Anniversary edition of Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits, Vol. 2) UK version, [UICY-79023]
In 2022 - 50th Anniversary edition of Hot Rocks 1964-1971 [UICY-79767/8]
In 2023 - 50th Anniversary edition of More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies), original track list [UICY-80323/4]
All as SHM-CDs in paper-jacket replicas of the original covers. And with new mastering, not identical to 2002.

It is time to do the same for Rolled Gold, I guess. It will be a pure cash grab for sure. But Rolled Gold is much better in terms of track list compared to Hot Rocks winking smiley.

I think a few years ago (might be after No Filter) the plan was to do a ' world' tour consisting of multiple gigs in 1 city before moving to the next. Bv also said something about this iirc.

Such a shame, This sunday would be the Barcelona tour opening gig. And we would have had weeks of fun talking about rehearsals, setlist and stage.

Let's hope this is not it. I need live shows more than a new album. Also because HD will be hard to top imo.

My two cents:

- First single in September
- New studio album late November
- a couple of show in London or Paris
- Black and blue deluxe in April 2026
- European Tour in May 2026

Well, there's another aspect - none of The Rolling Stones are US citizens. Supporting musicians are, although I'm not sure if all of them are currently.

So, to keep it in line, hopefully, as BV wishes and expects, if movies not made the US will be... what about touring bands!!!!!!????

Visiting the US legally and obeying laws isn't as safe as some people think since people that do so (have been) are being or have been sent away.

That's an undeniable fact. Believe the hype.

Since Keith has a disliking of someone... here's the best titled article I could find that wasn't stupidly out of context like some others but they all pretty much say the same thing.

Album sales from older acts are concentrated 80% or more in pre-orders and the first week, an announcement months in advance encourages all die-hard fans to buy the album or as many variants as they want or can, the appeal of new fans is almost zero for acts with a career span of more than 25 years, much less for a band that's 60+ years old.

Once the album comes out, it's gone in 2 or 3 weeks; the interested public has already bought it, it doesn't matter if three more singles are released.

The only thing that changes all this is the Christmas season, there you have a window until December 23rd to buy the album as a gift, which is what happened with Hackney Diamonds, when Christmas passed the album collapsed and disappeared from the charts, nothing could have saved it, not even a new single and the tour did nothing to revive it.

Unfortunately that's how the market works for legacy acts, a couple of weeks ago Elton John released his new album with impressive promotion, interviews, live shows on TV and more, the album debuted #1 in the UK and #9 in the US, but after 3 weeks it disappeared from the charts, the album is already history, and that's how it is with every legacy act.

I guess I still have hope that there could be interest in a fourth single (going back to the beginning of the tour, anyway) just because of the tour.

May 19, 1978: Miss You single

June 2, 1978: Miss You 12"

June 9, 1978: SOME GIRLS

June 10: SOME GIRLS tour

The second through fourth singles came out after the tour. Extremely successful trailer and a short tour. OK.

August 14, 1981: Start Me Up

August 27, 1981: TATTOO YOU

September 25, 1981: US TOUR 1981

November 30, 1981: Waiting On A Friend

March 1982 Hang Fire

That was it.

Shorter frame from Mixed Emotions to STEEL WHEELS to tour in 1989.

Blah blah blah: always something before the tour started, and except for 1978, always something released during the tour.

2024 is the first time they did not release a single from a new album while on tour for the new album post-1978.

New album is released and it goes away in 3 weeks. Between Angry, Sweet Sounds, the album and Mess It Up was September 6 - October 20.

That's ridiculous.

So why not release a fourth single - remix etc - right before or the day of or days into the tour?

I hope you understand the point - THAT MAKES MORE SENSE than releasing Angry and then one week later Sweet Sounds and then Sword the day of the album and then nothing.

UMG had an 18 month plan!!!!! They lied!!!!! They put the little glass repair phone add out in August and by the end of October they were done!

The whole Christmas thing has been mentioned for years - yet nothing happened past late October so... UMG just closed the door because the tour was over.

Very stupid considering the singles and album weren't released anywhere near the tour.

Universal is just not a good label.

Every new release has a team working on its promotion and a budget for it. no label is going to throw money away, no matter who you are and with Hackney Diamonds the entire budget was provided upfront, Universal knew that the album would remain in the charts for two months due to demand during the holiday season, and that nothing could be done after that, radio wouldn't play any new singles, only the first one out of curiosity, as happened with Angry.

I don't know where the 18-month phrase came from or why it was published in that article.

It's ridiculous to make an 18-month plan for a legacy act.

It's not 1978, 1981, 1989 or even 2005 anymore.

Hi Georgelicks, I love your posts. The 18-month plan thing came from an interview with a label marketing exec in which he spoke about how it rolled out. To be absolutely fair to him, everything he said they would do, they did: remix of "Mess It Up", to drive interest; the MLB tie-in; the picture discs and Japanese version. I imagine the Stones are delighted with the results.

As a great "what if" of this tail-end period of the Stones -- and this is me speculating, not some label marketing guy or quote -- IF we had got the European tour this summer, how might "Depending On You", or, "Whole Wide World" fared as singles? Frustratingly for someone who still wants the band to do well, I thought "Angry" was by no means the best track on the album.

And finally, as sometimes happens when one shares one's thoughts, I'm now wondering if the tour this summer didn't happen BECAUSE they're recording a new album? Interestingly, this gives them two new records to promote if they tour Europe next summer.

Thanks again, I love the info you put here as someone who's clearly got the inside track on the band...

Honestly what's the purpose of a single after the album is released? It makes more sense if they release them as a teaser like they did with Angry and Sweet Sounds. Especially If they don't bother at all with the music video...

This would be nice. I think the Black And Blue Deluxe could come earlier due to the 'Ronnie's 50th' thing, but I would be really happy with this little bundle whichever way it happens!
