For those of you who don't know them, it's a qintet of nice-looking chicks with a vocalist who can hold her own. They opened last summer for the Allmans and Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 fame.

Including BG... Buddy's set at the U.C. pretty much sucked, IMO... he just doesn't have the kind of sound that works at a venue like the U.C. and he's just not that interesting a bluesman... there's more interesting blues guys in Chicago playing the 50 seat bars like Big Daddy Kinsey, Magic Slim Holt, and Son Seals (rip).

I sorta liked the opening track "Mustang Sally" but it just went downhill after that.

That said, Buddy had a better set in Milwaukee this tour and the highlight was when he joined Lisa and the band onstage for Night Time... that was thru the roof.

I've never actually seen Buddy Guy open for the Stones.
(I would've seen him open in Milwaukee, but I had to cancel that trip).
Saw him in California in 2000 and really enjoyed his performance, thought he would be a good opener.

He's got a better "arena lineup" this tour, the sound fills the room better...

Still, I know this is "sacrilege", but I just don't think BG is that interesting of a bluesman... alot of his songs seem to wander...

BB King would be a GREAT opening act, he's got a tremendous veteran band and for what the Stones are bringing in you'd think they could easily afford him at least at some venues.

The Stones are just CHEAP when it comes to these 3rd-class opening bands.

Buddy Guy was decent at the Rose Bowl in 1994. He only played 35-40 mins and got offstage before he could get boring. Blues doesn't really translate well in an arena or stadium stadium most of the time.

Also the Stones don't really need to make an effort to get a good opener if they don't need help selling tickets and if most of the people will still be in the parking lot. The days when an opener mattered (for almost any concert) are long gone.

The Stones used to have a tradition of having a really interesting opening band, though...

Now they just slap this one on for a few gigs, that one on... these usually aren't bands with much "future", like you say their sound isn't adapted to the venue... Stones openers are pretty much a joke anymore.

Didn't the Red Hot Chili Peppers open at the Rose Bowl? Or were there two opening slots? Buddy Guy opened in Vegas in 1994, I think.

Geez... the Peppers opened the Rose Bowl... ?? Wow. That must have been one major concert and a half... Curious, who was on guitar ? Navarro or Frusciante do you know ?

Now THATS what I'm talkin' about...

We Stones fans DESERVE that kind of opener... the Peppers, Metallica, Motley Crue... these awesome BIG SOUND bands...

Not the Goo-Goo Dolls, Blues Traveler, and whatever else sh*t we're getting.

The Rose Bowl was Rolling Stones/Red Hot Chili Peppers/Buddy Guy

I think Buddy Guy played 40 and RHCP played 55 and it was Dave Navarro on guitar. They weren't on tour at the time, they just did a handful of scattered gigs and it was a similiar set to Woodstock '94. Originally the Stones were supposed to do 3-4 nights and I guess they wanted to get a strong opener to move a lot of tickets like Guns N Roses in 1989 but RHCP were never really that big. They were very entertaining though.

The Stones and the Peppers, that is such a Monster lineup.

I was at both of them. It was a lot of fun, I am not the biggest RHCP fan but their set was a lot of fun and it was an energetic performance. I know there was a lot of whining on some of the boards over some comments Anthony Keidis made about these shows in his autobiography but I thought they were spot on.

If you get a chance to catch the Peppers on their next tour... don't miss them.

IMO they are the greatest live act going right now...

Since 1994 they have added Californication and By the Way which gives them another 10 KILLER live songs.

You won't be disappointed.

I have seen them 4 times. I should have gone last time because Mike Watt opened but I think I was in the throes of concert burnout (when I go to 10-15 concerts in a 4 - 6 week week period then suddenly dont want to go to another one no matter who is playing)
