There used to be a woman on here - chatoyancy - who claimed that Keith wrote songs about her. She called herself his platonic Polish lover or something.

I think that celebrities are generally and genuinely afraid to be buddies with fans. First of all, things have changed massively since the murder of John Lennon. Since then. a fan can be a threat, a stalker, a nuisance, a killer. With the advent of social media and easily spread personal details the chances to befriend a celebrity got even worse. That by the way is a loss for celebrities too.

Most of all though: being friends means lowering the façade for good and showing more of the true you... to someone whose entire opinion happens to be rooted in the [fake] image you have been fostering and promoting. It doesn't take a genius to realize that there are personal emotional worries and risks involved, standing in the way and jeopardizing the carefree well-being of your very ego.

Gaining brandnew friends who are eager to just spend time with you and to research the true you, ignoring the fame factor and consciously lacking the honor to have broken that wall: this is a precious privilege you lose once you commit to a career in show business.

Lots of people have thought they were the Stones' friends over the decades until they get too close and take it for granted. The road is full of people thrown from their bus.

I agree with you, Tired, who could argue with that?

But I follow a few other bands beside the RS. One of them is Nightwish, a Finnish symphonic metal band. The main composer and keyboardist, a very thoughtful, modest and articulate man, posted recently that the band had noticed the same people in the front of their shows in Finland; they called them the FinnFans. So they reached out to them, probably invited them backstage, and got to know them. They discovered that these fans liked to do the same things the band did, eg hiking and camping. So perhaps this band, which is at the top of their genre and huge in their country, now go on camping trips with their most devoted fans!

Jimmy Kimmel and Gaga are certainly fans and became sort of friends with them. Only to name two.

I doubt that the Stones are FRIENDS with Kraft, a very sleazy old man...he just pays them tons of money for private shows!
